10 of the Best Action Packed Cartoons of the 1980’s

A collection of videos and discriptions showcasing great cartoons of the 1980’s.

Imaginations ignited with the explosive action packed cartoons of the eighties. Complete silence in the opening credits would be shortly followed by an ecstatic, WOW! It was a magical time for every kid who tuned into BBC 1 or ITV straight after school: and for those who could get up early enough for the Saturday morning time slot.

Lets get ready to go back in time and awaken those delightful memory bytes.

Thundercats (1985)

The leader of the pack was Lion-O who kept control of the last Thunderans. These fast and lean warriors were kept on their toes by devious mutants trying to take them out. The ‘Sword of Omens’ gave the Thundercats special powers to take down the bad guys when times got tough. Other cats included Cheetara, Tygra, Jaga, Snarf and wilykat. The theme tune rocked!

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe  (1983)

What a ride Prince Adam took his awaiting audience on when he called “By the power of Greyskull, I Have The Power!” These secret words turned him into a muscle bond warrior to take on the many underground threats from Skeletor and his evil men. Battle cat was an awesome sidekick for He-man and the show was addictive.

Wowzers! A secret clumsy detective with an array of special gadgets built into his body was always on a mission to solve crimes. He had plenty of help from his daughter and highly intelligent dog. The Inspector always struggled to control and make sense of all his different abilities. One to watch.

The Jetsons (1984)

Meet the family of the future. This was more of a comedy, but was oozing creative concepts of future products and way of life. Everything was compact and folded away to create a minimal simplistic feel. Mr Jeston was always in some type of trouble, its was like watching an episode of the Flintstones but set in the future.

The Incredible Hulk (1982)

We all know the story of a scientist called David Banner when put under emotional stress becomes the most powerful green monster on the planet. In the early eighties version the Hulk went up against aliens and other bad guys. Th big green man was always on hand to save the day and look after civilian life. This cartoon was always action packed and kept kids hanging on the end of the seats.

Popeye and Son (1987)

There are many version of the mighty Popeye the sailor man. A spare can of spinach would be sucked down his pip transforming his forearms into powerful weapons. This super power would enable him to get out of many tricky situations. When his son Popeye Junior was born the cartoon offered some great adventure story lines. The pair always went up against their archenemies Pluto and his son Tank.

The Real Ghostbusters (1986)

What a rush of a cartoon. The story lines were on a different level and the show engrossed every young kid for at least twenty minutes of their crazy day. Ghost being blasted out of all different scenarios blasted the television screen with vibrant colours of magical entertainment.
Everyone had his or her favourite character but Dr. Peter Venkman was a true joy, especially with his powerful mind saving many a dangerous day.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987)

Donatello, Leonardo, Michaelangelo, and Raphael were master ninjas taking on crime and fighting mutant bad guys. Splinter a mutant rat taught the young turtles everything about the art of self-defence. Weapons of craft included nun-chucks, samurai sword, stick and deadly fighting forks. These tools were needed against the deadly Shredder and other foes.

Transformers (1984)

The evil Decepticons battled the good Autobots in this classic animated series. These intelligent machines from the planet Cybertron transformed into weapons, animals and transport. Searching the galaxy for new forms of energy lead them to Planet Earth. Optimus Prime and friends, (Autobots) – help the humans against Megatron stripping the planet of all its natural resources. Classic!
