Candy Boy
A review for the anime Candy Boy.
Candy Boy, directed by Takafumi Hoshikawa and produced by Anime International Company, is a seven piece short anime series with two extra episodes. The main characters are Kanade and Yukino Sakurai who are twin sisters and have a very close relationship. Kanade is a bold artist but can be very shy when she talks to others and Yukino is silly and outspoken with her sister but also shy when she talks to other people. The anime follows the sisters’ lives as they journey through their last year of high school together and their growing affection for each other. Although Candy Boy is considered a Yuri, meaning lesbian, anime, one could suggest that the relationship between Yukino and Kanade is just that they have a very close sisterly love.
Personally, I love this anime. The show’s sweetness and sincerity is refreshing compared to some of the more harsh and spastic animes that have been showing up lately and I think that there should be more anime like this. I also absolutely love the animation. Every frame is perfect and beautifully drawn. All of the characters are entertaining and easy to relate and get attached to. I would recommend this anime to any one who doesn’t mind a little romance or closeness between sisters but if you’re looking for hardcore yuri or shoujo-ai, you’re looking in the wrong place. Candy Boy gets 4.5 raindrops out of 5 only because I wish it lasted longer.
