The real Science of Sex- Kamasastra, which treats erotic in a comprehensive manner is an important branch of Indian literature which has greatly influenced and inspired early Indian poets particularly the dramatists. Since it deals with the various types of heroes and heroines, their characteristics, the different stages of love, the behaviors of a Nagarik etc., in a scientific manner it can be treated as branch related to Alankara Sastra., though traditionally it is treated under the Vaajikaran section of Ayurveda. Kama or the enjoyment of pleasure is rightly regarded as a aim of life along with Dharma and Artha. Vaatsyayana wrote the great work Kamasutra. This is earliest work on Kamasastra (Sexual Science).

Most of the Indian temples have the sculptures with the theme of Kamasutra. According the Vatsyayana there is mainly sixty four positions to have sex. These positions are sculptured in several temples in the temple complex of Khajuraho, in the state of Madhya Pradesh(India).
