The Biggest Building Ever
This came as a surprise to me. It is not a skycraper.
When we think of large buildings we tend to think of iconic structures. In terms of volume enclosed, the largest building in the world is the Boeing assembly plant at Everett, Washington, some 30 miles north of Seattle.
This building has been expanded several times to accommodate new production lines. It currently encloses 472 million cubic feet (13.3 million cubic metres) and has a footprint covering 98.3 acres (39.9 hectares).
The Everett factory was set up to produce the Boeing 747. Boeing purchased the site in June 1966 and opened the plant in May 1967. The first 747-100 which was completed in 1969 was produced while much of the factory was being built. In 1980 the building was expanded by 45% of accommodate the 767 assembly line. In 1993 the plant was enlarged by another 50% for 777 assembly. The current factory accommodates production lines for the 747, 767, 777 and 787 airplanes.
The following photos shows the enormity of the building. In the first photo notice how small the size of the building relative to the cars and trucks. In the second photo notice the size of the hangars relative to the aircraft.

My uncle lives in Seattle and Boeing plays such a huge part in the economy of the area. Not sure how many people work at this plant but it has to be a lot.
