The first on our list is the Alkaff Bridge in Singapore. This bridge is perhaps the most beautifully colored and most flamboyant bridge in the world.

This bridge is Singapore’s Art Bridge. It is a pedestrian bridge that spans the Singapore River. It is 55 meters long and weighs about 230 tons. Its shaped is like a tongkang, a kind of primitive boat.

From Singapore, let us proceed to Chile where we can find the brightly colored Malleco Viaduct.

This pretty bridge Malleco Viaduct, or Viaducto Del Malleco in Spanish,) is a railway bridge passing over the Malleco River valley in the Araucania Region. It was opened to traffic in 1890 and was the highest bridge of its kind at that time. This bridge was designed by the famous Gustave Eiffel.

From Chile, let us fly high to Poland and witness one of the most beautiful and colorful bridges in the world – Siekierkowski Bridge.

This lovely bridge located in Warsaw, Poland’s capital, is a bridge over the Vistula River. Siekierskowski Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge with a length of 500 m and a width of 33 meters.

From Poland, let us fly back to East Asia specifically in South Korea where we can find the astonishing arch bridge called Seonimgyo Bridge. It is located in Jeju Island over Cheonjeyeon Waterfall. It has 7 nymphs carved on both sides.

This lovely bridge is also called Chilseonyeogyo or Seven Nymphs Bridge. It was completed in 1984, and cost about US$430,000. There are 100 guard rails and 34 stone lanterns which light up at night.

Let us fly back once more to Europe to see a colorful bridge called Maria Valeria Bridge which connects two countries – Hungary and Slovakia.

This bridge specifically joins Esztergon in Hungary and Sturovo in Slovakia across the Danube River. Maria Valeria Bridge is about 500 meters long and was named after Archduchess Marie Valerie, the 4th child of Emperor Franz Josef and Elizabeth.

Going back to East Asia, this time in the ‘land of the rising sun’ – Japan, let us see the red-colored Minato Bridge.

Minato Bridge, a double-deck cantilever truss, is located in Osaka and opened in 1974. This bridge is notable for being the 3rd longest cantilever truss span in the world.

From Japan, let us proceed to Southeast Asia, Thailand in particular.

The Memorial Bridge is a blue-colored bridge over the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok, the country’s capital. This bridge opened in 1932. It is called Phra Phutta Yodfa Bridge in Thai language.

Another red-colored bridge located in Europe is the Willemsbrug. A beautiful bridge located in the Netherlands.

It is situated in Rotterdam spanning the Niewe Maas. This cable-stayed bridge has a span of about 318 meters. The bridge is painted in a red color which puts it in sharp contrast with the light blue painted Erasmusbrug.

Still in Europe, is the blue-colored Road- Railway Bridge in Serbia.

This bridge on the Danube River in Novi Sad was built in 2000, after the previous bridge at this location was destroyed during NATO bombardment in 1999. The Road-Railway Bridge has a provisory character and will be removed when the new permanent bridge is built at this location.

The last colorful bridge in our list located in Europe is the astounding Liberty Bridge of Hungary. This bridge has a length of 333.6 m and a width of 20.1 meters. The top of the four masts are decorated with large bronze statues of the Turul, a falcon-like bird, prominent in ancient Hungarian mythology.

The bridge is Szabadsag hid is Hungarian and sometimes called Freedom Bridge. It is located in the country’s capital- Budapest.

Another cool-looking bridge in Japan, this time in Hokkaido, is the Niseko Bridge.

This brightly colored bride is located in Shiribeshi, Hokkaido in Japan. This place is a famous ski resort and often referred to as the “Mt. Fuji of Hokkaido”.

Still in Asia, – the lovely and captivating Khaju Bridge of Iran. I think this bridge is a perfect dating place during sunset for lovers as manifested on the picture above.

It is regarded by many as one of the most beautiful and famous bridges of Iran. This bridge has 23 arches and is 105 meters long with a 14 meter width. The pieces of stone used in this bridge are over 2 meters long and the distance between every channel and the ceiling base is 20 meters.

So much of Asia and Europe, let us now go to America where we can find the beautifully colored St. John’s Bridge in Portland, Oregon – the tallest bridge in Portland, with 400 ft (122 m) tall towers and a 205 ft (62 m) navigational clearance.

This steel suspension bridge that spans the Willamette River in Portland is the only bridge of this kind in the Willamette Valley. It has two 408 ft or 124 m tall Gothic towers, a 1,207 ft (368 m) center span and a total length of 2,067 ft (630 m).

Well, our list will be incomplete if the famous Golden Gate Bridge will not be included. This beautiful suspension bridge spans the Golden Gate – the opening of the San Francisco bay onto the Pacific Ocean.

This bridge was the longest suspension bridge span in the world when it was completed during the year 1937. It is undoubtedly a popular and an internationally recognized symbol of San Francisco and California.

I think this is definitely a testament to how important it is for cities to take pride in their image, and to cultivate some kind of lasting culture with their architecture. If you’re going to make something that’s functional and beneficial, why not make it beautiful too?
