The Spooks Have Spoken: 10 Hauntingly Photographical Locations for Halloween
Legend and folklore have often precluded to the presence of spirits lurking around in feudal castles and mansions mostly because of the historical value of these dwellings and because they still may think these abodes still belong to them.
Many people believe that ghosts are trapped within a portal to the other realm and remain unsettled until they pass over. Some of the phenomenon associated with haunted apparitions includes eerie visions and unidentified sounds, feelings of trepidation, and the sudden unfathomable death of all the occupants.
Littlecote House Hotel

Littlecote was built in the 13th century and is legend to many hauntings within the halls and the gardens. William Darrell, who was rumored to be a lord of the household at one time is said to have murdered a new born baby by his own mistress. Guests have often complained about the constant cries of babies down the corridors.
Dragshom Castle in Denmark


Dragsholm was constructed in the 12th century and it provided a residence for noble families. Since then, the castle has been converted into a hotel. The castle is rumored to have many odious haunts especially ones that reside in the basement where the old prison cells were located.
Craignethan Castle in Scotland

Craignethan castle in South Lanarkshire, Scotland was built in the 16th century around the time the Hamilton family ruled the property. Mary, Queen of Scots, is said to have spent the night here before the Battle of Langside in 1568. Her ghosts still walks the halls during the darkness.
Ballygally Castle

Ballygally Castle was built in 1625 and it is the only “17th century building in Northern Ireland still being used as a residence today.” One of the most recognizable ghosts was the former Lady of the castle, Isobel Shaw. Isobel is rumored to be rather good-natured, as she loves to toy with the guests during their stay.
Brissac Castle in France


Standing seven stories high and built in the 15 century, this mysterious castle is filled with legends of murder and ghostly haunts. One of the owners, Jacques de Breze, sold the castle rather unexpectedly as a result of the assassination of his wife charlotte and her lover. The ghost of Charlotte still haunts the castle.
Comlongon Castle


Constructed in the 15th century, Comlongon is comprised of many “interconnecting chambers to an extent not seen in any contemporary Scottish castle.” The narrow kitchen connects to a guardroom which in composed of a cell and a trapdoor that leads to a foreboding darkened dungeon.
Ruthin Castle in Wales


Ruthin castle is a medieval fortress that met its demise during the English Civil War. “Oliver Cromwell’s forces dismantled and demolished the castle to prevent the castle from becoming militarily viable in the future.”
Grand Hotel Villa Di Corliano

There are legends about the villa Agostini in Corliano that still claim the existence of the ghost of Teresa della Seta Bocca Gaetani , “a beautiful woman descending from an old family in Pisa.” The noblewoman is still believed to be lurking about, moving tapestries and knick-knacks and knocking on guest’s doors and windows.
Castle Bran


Located in the Carpathian Mountains in Romania and said to be the location of the Knights of the Teutonic Order in the year 1212. This location if often confused with Dracula’s castle which is located on the Arges River and its remnants are in complete ruins.
Peonari Castle-Dracula’s Home

Peonari was first constructed in the 13th century by Romanian rulers. Over the years the castle had many owners but, it ultimately was abandoned in the first half of the 16th century. “Due to its size and location, the castle was very hard to seize, even by natural forces. “.

though we have a different way of celebrating Halloween, it’s a nice idea to hold it if not on a castle but in beautiful places similar to the above pics.

Loved this article. Of course, I always love a good spooky story. I’ve only been to one of these locations, Castle Peonari, and that place is creepy given its history. Perhaps when I’m done with the kids I can eventually take time out to travel and visit some of these places..lol. Too cool.

Love ghostly things and was a bit miffed when we did not hear or see anything strange at Littlecote House. Apparently there is a rumour that there have been sightings of strange moving lights and noises near the Roman Villa in the grounds of Littlecote House.
