Juan Gris, whose full name is Jose Victorioano Gonzalez-Perez, produced several works in the early 20th century, which fell under the artistic genre of cubism. The selected works below illustrate the immense artistic prowess wielded by Gris.
Portrait of Picasso
This portrait of fellow cubist, Pablo Picasso, was painted in 1912 and helped to develop his name as a rising artist.

Landscape with Houses at Ceret

Gris progressed to painting landscapes, such as this one of the town of Ceret, painted in 1913.
Guitar with Clarinet

Perhaps the most prolific works of Gris’ ouvre involved cubist interpretations of musical instruments. The guitar featured in many works. Here is painted, in 1920, with a clarinet.
Violin and Glass

In addition to the guitar, the violin was also painted in a fragmented fashion. The Violin and Glass was painted in 1915.
Still Life with Fruit and Mandolin

Like other contemporary acclaimed artists, Gris’ also painted still lives. This 1919 painting is a particularly spectacular example.
