Duality Leads to Greatness

Duality Leads to Greatness

Duality and how it has influenced some of the greatest writers.

Writing is no small feat for even the best of authors. It is a great accomplishment to complete a well written piece. However, the inner creativity inside of us isn’t always easily expressed. To get the most of their ability many authors experience an altered state. This can be brought on by alcohol, drugs, or slight mental illness. These changing personalities, in effect, can be referred to as duality.

Duality is defined by Webster’s Dictionary as “the quality or state of being dual or of having a dual nature”. This, in itself, describes the concept at hand. Not all writers are aware or even know of this subtle transformation. It is indeed a quiet subconscious redirection. The minor phenomena of duality can be neither taught nor learned. Therefore, it is essentially a sole presence within and can only be induced.

Many artistic amateurs and professionals fall into duality. From artwork or music to writing or sculpting it occurs. Though not all are subject to it, a select few do receive the benefits. A “gift” of this nature is largely due to the individual creative process. Musicians, for example, must switch from the average person to an entertaining stage performer while in concert. The same holds true for authors of any genre. When dwelling into ones creativity, they exhibit forms of characterization. In essence, the creator becomes the story as an alter ego.

Some have mentioned duality in their works as a subject or story line. One such author would be Stephen King in his story “The Dark Half”. In this piece King portrays obvious symptoms of a duality transgression. That particular work may in fact be fiction, but the phenomenon is still very real. As before mentioned this is a gift and not a learned concept. If we all possessed these tendencies we all would in turn be wondrously successful writers.

Stephen King has mesmerized millions for years with his gut and soul wrenching works. His graphic narratives and thorough character development has made him a virtual legend. This status wasn’t conquered by King alone. It is highly suspected that he has been touched with duality.

Although Stephen King is one of the great writers suspected of duality, there are many others. For instance, Edgar Allan Poe was a noted opium user. There is no definite reason for his usage but the fact is many of his writings were created under the influence. Due to the explicitness in Poe’s works, a glimpse of duality becomes brutally obvious.

Another such writer classified as having this gift would be William Shakespeare. He was the masterful author of many classic pieces. From plays to sonnets, Shakespeare paved the way for many future writers. However, his eccentricity has brought about suspicion of duality. The vivid characters in plays like Hamlet and Othello as well as romantic overtures lead readers to believe in this theory.

These are classic examples of amazing writers who have been charmed with duality. As they wrote their masterpieces, all three authors had this gift inside them. While greatness is rare to achieve so is the mystified concept of duality. The next great author of all time just may have duality.
