I belong to one couple’s group at church together with my husband. We are part of a team of persons who are strongly committed to each other and share our experiences and learnings with those couples who are about to tie the knot. What usually happens is that once a couple decides to get married, they meet with a pastor who gives them a relationship inventory prior to planning their wedding. The questions in this relationship inventory range from different factors like financials, their plans regarding rearing a child, religious faith, recreational activities and their relationship with extended family. Each of them take the survey and it is corrected and given a score electronically.  And then the results are tallied and given to a couple who is a member of our group. Then, we have a meeting with the couple about to marry and we have a discussion on the results. For the young soon-to-be-married couple, they find this experience very rewarding. We, the mentoring couple, enjoy this experience as well.

Our group works in a way that we meet one time a month to talk about the preparations for marriage of the couples who we will be working with. Of course, we never fail to socialize. One member of our group, a woman, suggested that all of us should take dance lessons for community education together. For years, she has been wanting to do this but her husband refuses everytime. She feels that if we take dance lessons as one big group, then her husband will have no choice but to join in. Immediately, all the female members thought that this was a good idea. The males at first were reluctant but after the wives coaxed and whined some more. they eventually gave in.

We enrolled for dance lessons, particularly ballroom dancing. The dance instructor was so happy to see us all in class. All in all, our dance lessons was composed of six couples. The instructor partnered with this wife and together, this pair has offered dance lessons for many years. They were happy that there are many people in our group because usually they have just around three couples signing up. Our instructor was more pleased when he learned that the couples knew each other. This was certainly going to be so much fun!

The first night of dance lessons, all of us learned how to dance the waltz. Our instructor with his wife danced it first while we all watched. And then pretty soon, we were joining our teachers in the dance floor, trying so hard to mimic the dance steps. There was so much laughter and teaasing among the men. But we were making so much progress, even though we were laughing very hard as we danced. The instructor said that the group of junior high school students he once taught were more behaved.

When we got into the 3rd week of dance lessons, we became a lot more comfortable. We were enjoying our time so much and were able to master three dances in the end.
