Your First Dance Class
What you should do to prepare for your first dance class.
Overcome your anxiety and go to the first class. And when I say the first class, make sure it is the first class. It is hard to catch up even when you start on the second class. In addition, some instructors give a little history lesson during the first class. This information may help in increasing your interest which will lead to more enthusiasm for the class.
If you can bring dancing shoes, great. If not, just wear socks or leather-soled shoes – something that will allow you to slip and slide.
Try to get to the front of the classroom near the instructor and the mirrors so you can clearly see the instructor’s moves without any obstruction. Then you can also see yourself in the mirror and compare how you look and how you are performing your moves compared to the instructor.
Don’t always think about the move. Allow your muscles and instinct move your body after you have repeated the move several times.
During the breaks, continue to practice the moves with the instructor or with another person in the class. This will allow you to make the most of your class.
If you think you are going to participate in the class for many of the succeeding classes, make friends with your classmates. This will prove invaluable during practice and other dance school events in the future.
Good luck.
