Product Packaging Design: The Chinese Takeout Box
Packaging…we see it everyday. Everything is packaged in a matter that makes us want to buy. For that reason I decided I wanted to experiment with the world of packaging.
In the world of products, packaging design really interested me when I had started taking graphic design classes. My inspiration came from a simple Chinese box I found. Once I found the package I wanted to use, it was time to start designing. I figured my product would be “Chinese Takeout Erasers.”

Part of my design I created and part I went and bought. The ribbon is simple ribbon tape I bought at Joann Fabrics. The box was put together based on a template I found.
Once I designed the box, I printed it up and cut it out.

It is nothing that fancy. This is my basic mockup. From this mockup, I can already tell that the ribbon should be going straight across the top and should not be crossing the way it is. I also know the label I created should be more of an oval shape. The box is simple cardstock. The real one could be made of plastic. For a simple test, this does well for me.
The product itself being great for a young persons market, say ages 7 to 21. A few people in the older market may be interested in. Perfect for the Hallmark store, Hospital stores, and in the stationary department of a department store, and perhaps even some bookstores, or office supply stores. The perfect gift for the writer, or for a person who you might like to see write.
My purpose of creating this was not just create the product, but to create a working ad and to play a little. The ad could go into catalogs.
