How to Become a Better Artist
It’s very simple, but here are a few tips to help you.
- Train your eye. Try and see things how they really are, and add them to your paper.
- Look over your work after a day or two. By then, your eyes would most likely have cleared up and you’ll begin to see your errors.
- Look at other people’s work, no matter how jealous they’ll make you. Check over their strokes and practice their technique.
- Don’t stick to one style of art. Explore you ability, be creative, and after you do so, you’ll find your favorite art form.
- Take tips, if you ignore them, you’ll end up learning them later. By then, you might have missed a couple precious years.
- Pay attention to your shadows. Start shading them lightly, and don’t overdo it. Shadows are critical because they make objects look real.
- Don’t forget to doodle. Do it in your free time though, it is likely to distract you. Doodling is practice, no matter how silly it is. I had stopped for a while because it distracted me from class, but that ended up giving me an artist’s block.
- I actually don’t know if this tip is necessary, but I like to do this. I take out my old work, notice the problems, and fix them on a new sheet of paper/canvas/etc.
- Practice with your tools. Art is a trial and error thing. Use your paints or pens and practice strokes on paper/canvas/etc.
- Take these tips seriously, like I said on tip 5, you shouldn’t ignore them.
