Derren Brown to all the people who don’t know who he is, he is an English magician, illusionist and mentalist. He is well known in the UK for his excellent mind tricks that no other person in his field has managed to do. He claims he is not a psychic however most of his mind tricks are so amazing that it looks like he really is psychic. He is banned from a lot of casino’s because he always seems to win each game without cheating. Derren Brown impressed the UK with lots of different series of him performing his fantastic mind tricks on television.

Derren Brown did a new series called “Derren Brown and the Events” and as usual grabbed the UK by storm and managed to get a wider range of supporters when he actually correctly predicted the Lottery Results. The media also was intrigued by this amazing ability. When he told everyone how he did it, he also put the doubt there that he may of rigged the machine. If he didn’t rig the machine then many people just didn’t believe that his explanation was the way he actually correctly predicted the lottery results. He said he predicted the lottery results by thinking one day about an article he read about called “The Wisdom Of Crowds”.

“It was in 1906 that Galton made his discovery of what is known as the wisdom of crowds. He attended a farmers’ fair in Plymouth where he was intrigued by a weight guessing contest. The goal was to guess the weight of an ox when it was butchered and dressed. Around 800 people entered the contest and wrote their guesses on tickets. The person who guessed closest to the butchered weight of the ox won a prize. After the contest Galton took the tickets and ran a statistical analysis on them. He discovered that the average guess of all the entrants was remarkably close to the actual weight of the butchered ox. In fact it was under by only 1lb for an ox that weighed 1,198 lbs. This collective guess was not only better than the actual winner of the contest but also better than the guesses made by cattle experts at the fair. He used the same principle by getting a group of people and getting them to predict the lottery results for the weeks before and then working out the averages. On the day he did the exact same principle and that’s how he worked out the lottery results.

The next episode he said he was going to control the nation by making them stick to their seats or sofa’s using NLP. NLP is actually very powerful, however many people also lost faith in him when hardly anyone actually stuck to their seats at home.

The next episode was a great success for the public, as he asked lots of people to predict what they thought would be on this certain picture that someone had painted. This picture was then covered in newspaper and put into a museum for people to have a look at it and have them a box to put in their suggestions on what they thought the picture could be. On the day of revealing the picture the lady who had painted the picture was isolated on the day in an unknown location (she didn‘t even know where she was). Derren brown told this lady to think about what she painted on this picture and tell the viewers at home what she drew but in her mind only, not out loud. Many people painted circles, but also many people also painted Stonehenge. When the picture was revealed it was a picture of circles. The lady who had painted it, said she was thinking circles at the time, but when she was looking into the camera to the viewers at home she was thinking of a sky view of Stonehenge which are also a circles. The viewers were amazed and so was the lady who painted the picture, but Derren Brown had one more surprise for her. He said to the lady open the door of where she was isolated and when she opened the door she found herself at Stonehenge.

I missed the last episode unfortunately so I cannot really discuss my thoughts or tell you what really happened, but apparently many people also was disappointed with this last episode also. He was going to predict what number the roulette wheel ball landed on. Apparently he was one off the ball, but he still failed.

I still love Derren Brown, because he is still a magnificent mentalist and I feel we shouldn’t forget the other series where he was simple amazing. For example he subliminally told and advertisement agency what to draw. He got kids to draw a teddy bear without them or their teacher realising it. He kept winning staring competitions because he controlled the person who he was staring at and many more.
