When I heard of the death of Bernie Mac, I was saddened, He was only 50 years old. There were rumours flying all over the internet about him possibly having AIDS, but they were just that, ignorant insensitive rumors made simply because it is unusual for a 50 year old black man to die of Pneumonia complications.

In his life, Bernie Mac built a legacy as a comedian and actor, I think insulting somebody after they’re dead is the pinnacle of rudeness and insensitivity, have some compassion.

As fans,friends and family mourn his loss, I sit writing this tribute.

I saw him a few times on the “Bernie Mac show” and sitting here now I think of those episodes.

Though I stopped watching the show I still think Bernie is a funny man. I was angered this morning by comments my stepfather made about Bernie related to the AIDS rumor,

The man is dead, let him rest.

His comedic style will be forever etched into our culture, his skills as an actor and his stage presence will be remembered for years to come. In his short 50 years, Bernie overcame hardship and adversity and proved that success is not elusive unless you never really seek it.

If you seek it, you will find it, even if it is a hard road.

To Bernie’s family, I’d like to send my condolences, Bernie will be Missed!
