Derren Brown: Just a Little Bit Boring
With the lottery trick out of the way, isnt it time to say goodbye to Derren.
I realize that Derren Brown is a pretty famous man. Whilst perhaps only a few people will read this article, millions will watch him on one of his stunts. He stood on a pole, was frozen in ice, and lived in a glass box suspended over the Thames. Recently, he has even predicted the national lottery numbers!
So, given there exploits you may wonder why I find the men so ? dull. Surely he is an adventurer, a great magician that I should be enthralled with. Well, the problem is that it is clear that everything he does is a trick. Even though I may not be able to work out the trick, I can think of a few ways how they might be done. For example, in a glass cage with nothing but a water pipe., no food, no salt. But it doesn’t seem totally implausible to have nurturance through the water pipe does it? This lottery trick.: Many ways that he could have done it. But he insists in maintaining some strange idea of adding together random numbers and dividing them by other random numbers. Clearly this is not true. If it were true he should have entered the draw, that would have given us some pretty hard evidence!
The fact that these magic tricks are indeed tricks isn’t reason enough to find the man dull I suppose. Nor really is the fact that he rather mundanely insists that they are not tricks. What’s most annoying is that his tricks aren’t even impressive. By which I mean visually impressive, not the things that make you gasp. When a magician makes a car disappear before your eyes it makes you go ooooooow. I just don’t find that will Derren. I just find that standing on a pillar, or sitting in a box is just dull. Whatever other way could you express it? It is, simply, flatly dull.
