How David Blaine Did the Trapped-in-Ice Illusion

How David Blaine did his world famous illusion where he was trapped in ice for three days.

David Blaine is an amazing illusionist who can do things that boggle the mind.  One of his tricks that stands out the most is the one where he stood inside an ice block in time square for three days.

Lets start with the inside of the ice chunk.  The ice may look like it is cold, but it really is just above freezing.  A nice 50 degrees.  This is called the igloo effect.  The inside of the ice block is a lot warmer, like an igloo, cold on the outside, warm on the inside.

Next is standing up for three days without food, water, and sleep.  There are actually two David Blaine’s for this one.  Every so often when a man comes by to shoot the outside of the ice block with dry ice to make sure it doesn’t melt, one of the Blaine’s drops down into a trap door.  In this is a small room with a bed, food, and water.  People ask, if he drops into the trap door, how come on the TV in time square you see him standing here.  For this part, they loop a section of him standing there.  This is genius because it is too hard to see through the ice into the block, so people just watch the TV.

When the three days are over, all David has to do is put his freezing act on.  David Blaine is an amazing magician because of this.  If he could have survived the three days in the ice block is incredible.  The fact that he found a way to make it into an illusion is the real reason why he is such a magnificient entertainer.
