My Composers name is Yo Yo Ma. He is a Modern Cellist player, who has composed over 75 albums. He was born in Paris of 1955. He started working with the cello at a mere four years old. He later moved to New York were he spent his shaping years. His school was called the Julliard School. He spent his college years at Harvard and graduated from there. Yo Yo Ma has won many prizes such as Avery Fisher, Glenn Gould, National Medal of the Arts, and Dan David, Sonning prize. He was appointed a Culture Connect Ambassador by the United States Department of state in 2002.

Yo Yo Ma has appeared on many kid television shows. Arthur, and Mr. Rogers Neighborhood. He also appeared in the famous show Sesame Street. Fifteen of the albums were Grammy winners. He also helped with soundtrack for the movie, A Memoir of a Geisha.

Mr. Ma participated in making a lot of projects. The first project was called the Silk Road Project. This project consists of museums along with performances. Some of the museums that held these events were Peabody Essex Museum, Nara National Museum, Kyushu National Museum, and the Rubin Museum. This year the Reitberg museum will be a part of this project too. The Silk Road Project hosted workshops with eight composers.

Mr. Ma’s albums were widely known. Some of his albums were Hush, Appalachian waltz, Appalachian journey, Obrigado Brazil, and Paris la belle époque. The newest album he has made is called “ new impossibilities.” The Silk Road Ensemble made this. Mr. Ma made the soundtrack to the very famous movie “Memoirs of a Geisha.” Some of Mr. Ma’s albums have been on the Billboard top fifteen.
