At first sight, Ansel Adams photographs may be realistic in the sense that they capture details, even the most tiny and minute ones. However, a closer looks suggest a surrealistic appearance, like how the images seem to jump from a dream.

The surrealism in Ansel Adams photographs make them very intriguing, and thus allow them to command a very high price. When I first came across one of Adams’ photographs, I honestly thought that these were paintings. My favorite photo of his is entitled “From Glacier Point” and is the first image in my mind as I recall my initial experience with his art.

“From Glacier Point” appears very interesting in the sense that the focus of the photo seems off-center. A viewer’s eye may go in different directions when looking at this piece. He can see first the huge dark tree in front, or the mountains and valleys that stand in magnificence in the background.

The unique thing about Ansel Adams photographs lies in the fact that they have an out of the ordinary persective. A normal photographer would put the mountain at the center. Adams intentionally sets the focus off-center. This is what makes him an outstanding artist.
