Diary of a Photographer
More basic notes on the joys of photography.
As an avid bird watcher I am fortunate to have a kitchen window which shows all many of small birds feeding only feet, sorry, centimeters, from me. The bird never seem to notice me watching them and since I set up a food ball they come in even bigger numbers: Blue tits, Long tail tits, Coal tits and Robins.
There definitely a pecking order with Blue seeming to dominate over other tits whilst Robins, being a bit bigger just get on with feeding without interupptions.
These are a few of my early pictures taken through glass so there is room for improvement…the Long Tail Tit, below is out of focus although the female Chaffinch is a bit of an improvement…

Lessons to be learned:
- Prepare before the birds arrive.
- Open the window, for sharper shots, bewfore the birds arrive.
- Use a tripod which I did not
- Use the correct shutter speed and lens aperture to get maximum effect.
- Use a telphoto or zoom lens – which I did, a Nixon Zoom 55mm to 200mm at 200mm.
