Focus, Focus, Focus!
The key to a good image is for your camera to be in focus. When you get the focus right, the rest will follow.
While looking through some of my photos the other day, I came across this image of an exotic flower from South America.

If you look carefully, you’ll see a little insect on the end of a stamen on that flower! In macro photography, you have to have lots of patience and a steady hand to capture that intense detail.
FOCUS, focus, FOCUS. Make sure your subject is in focus. You will always get better results with plenty of light and colour. Sometimes you have to wait for the moment, keep taking your shots and an insect will appear in the frame, a butterfly, or a wasp. This will add content to your image.
Press your shutter release half way to find the correct focus; keep your hand steady, check the focus is good and press fully – gently. Try again if you can, and keep going until the insect flies off. It can be good to have the multiple shot feature activated, so that your camera takes several shots in a few seconds.
Best wishes, for that perfect focus shot!
P.S. New cameras have a helpful feature called “Super Steady Shot” (or some other similar name). This helps maintain a steady focus if you time it right. It is best to get one IN CAMERA, rather than in the lens.
