From Camera to Computer: Transferring Digital Photos

The best way to transfer your valuable photos from a digital camera onto a computer.

It is very easy to transfer digital photos from a camera to a computer. Many people are under the impression that it requires special software to transfer the files from a camera to a computer. But all you need to transfer these valuable files is a USB cable one end connected to a camera and the other end to a computer. Once the connection to the camera is established by your computer system, a green icon will appear on the bottom right side of your computer monitor. It indicates that a connection with an external device is established; in this case your digital camera. Now your computer is ready to communicate with your digital camera.

Now click on “My Computer” from the desktop. This will show the drives available in your computer. You will notice a new drive has appeared after listing all the drives. One of that drive will be your digital camera with the camera name such as Canon, Nikon,Sony etc.  Just double click on this drive to browse the digital photos that are stored in your camera. You can now copy the required files just like you copy files from one directory to another and paste it into a target directory in your system. Once you transfer your files, you can also delete the files from the camera by selecting the files from camera drive. Now you have plenty of space available in your camera and it can accommodate new photos.

Before disconnecting the camera from the computer click on the green icon mentioned above and stop the device. This is an important step you must do before removing any usb device connected to your computer. Once you do this, the system will throw a message saying that it is now safe to remove the hardware. At this point gently remove the device by disconnecting the cable.

I was always depending on the software that comes with the camera to transfer the photo files and it take sometime to do this. But the straight method mentioned in this article is simple and easy to follow. Thanks for the suggestion.
