My Photography: A Work in Progress 1
This is just a short collection of some of the photos I have taken and have been somewhat proud of.
I have tried getting into photography without spending way too much money on a camera. I simply use a little cannon powershot and see what I can do with that. I randomly have periods of time where I attempt photography and then I give it up for a while. Well here are some pictures that I have taken and have actually thought may be decent. Hope everyone enjoys them.
The following picture is the one I am most proud of… I’m not big on naming my pictures as that seems slightly pretentious to me but this is simply a photo of a fountain at sunset. This was taken in Old San Juan in Puerto Rico two summers ago when I went to this beautiful location on a mission trip to build houses.

Here is another picture from Puerto Rico. Its of a waterfall whose name I can not remember near this rain forest. The pictures of the rain forest did not come out sadly because of the humidity.

This picture is one I took basically as a joke when someone tries to be all artsy by using black and white and also takes pictures of random every day things. I ended up actually liking this picture however. It is very plain and to me it evokes many memories of the beach and days I have spent there with my friends.

The next three photos are of random flowers after a rainstorm. I used to be a member of this forum where I participated in photography challenges and one of them was to get a picture of water droplets sitting on something so the day it rained I went outside to check out some flowers and get some pictures. My camera is not amazing so the quality is not outstanding but I think they came out all right.

Here is a picture of a sunrise, one of the few I have woken up to see at the beach. Sadly it was a horribly cloudy day, freezing cold and just not completely enjoyable but I did get several good pictures out of it. Anyways here they are.

OK This last one is not a picture taken by me but actually of me taken by my roommate’s dad at a regional track competition. I just really like this one because high jump is such a quick sport and this picture makes everything look completely still and peaceful.

Well that’s really all there is to my current “portfolio” but I will be sure to add more whenever I get the chance to get out there with my camera. I really would appreciate comments on this by the way and any kind of advice for photography would be greatly appreciated as well. Thanks for reading!

Hi,
You have some good shots, I like the silhouette of the scupltures. Don’t worry too much about using a small camera – photography isn’t so much about the equipment you use, but the way you use it. Sure it would be nice to have all the fancy stuff but the truth is all the best cameras and equipment in the world won’t make anyone a better photographer. The visions come from you, not a camera. Old photography expression: “90% of photography happens 6 inches behind the lens”. As for advice, read all you can then practice what you’ve read until it becomes second nature. I don’t know how much you already know, but most people who delve into photography aren’t aware that individual building blocks and rules of photographic composition exist. Even a basic familiarity with these can make a significant difference in one’s images. If you keep practicing eventually you’ll develop your own style. You already seem to have the eye and a vision for it, I think you have much potential.
Happy Photographing!
