Taking Pictures of Flowers
A comparison between pictures taken before and after reading “The Digital Photography” book by Scott Kelby. As well as a quick review of what can be found in his book.

One of the best books on photography in my opinion is “Digital Photography” by Scott Kelby. This book is very easy to read, especially for beginners. The explanations are simple and the book itself is written in a very light manner. While reading it I caught myself smiling a lot and being very interested in what the author has to say. The book is organized in a very good way. It is as if the author himself is standing beside you and instructing you on how to take best photograph at that particular instant.
I am enclosing few photographs of flowers taken before and after reading a couple of pages from this book. All of these pictures were taken by the same camera, however only the last picture was taken after I followed instructions given to me in this book.
If that is the difference after I read a couple of pages, can you imagine what you might achieve if you read the whole book?
One of the very first things that I did was to start photographing flowers from the side instead of usual shots that are taken by looking down. This provides a unique view of the flowers that people rarely get to see. So the pictures will be more interesting and people will enjoy looking at them.
That picture was not taken by using a macro lens, I just used the normal zoom lens that came with my camera. I set my camera to a smallest aperture that it allowed to focus on one flower and to keep the background from distracting from what I wanted people to see.
For the black backround I just used black velvet material, i left about two feet distance between flowers and velvet and took the picture. But photoshop can alse be used.
And that was ALL that I did.
After reading this book my photographs are becoming better and better. And I am certainly looking forward to reading the second part of this book.
