Calum Colvin’s Amazing Projector Art
This man has created an entirely new art form.
Calum Colvin is a Scottish artist who lives in Glasgow. He has managed to create art that is mind boggling in both the technical aspect and the moral aspect. He creates his prints by projecting an image onto a set scene of real objects and painting with real paint over the scene – using the projected image as reference. The end result look amazing from one angle, and strange from any other.

The Twa-Dogs is one of Colvins best pieces. The scene consists of merchandise from Celtic and Rangers – both are widely recognised Scottish soccer teams. Supporters of these teams don’t get along with each other too well, especially in Glasgow – where there have been numerous fights between the team supporters. Some subliminal messages include the rock located on the gramophone which might refer to rock music.

The Death Of Venus was another piece done to mock Botticelli’s Birth of Venus. The set shows how the modern world has changed, turning from innocent to chaotic. This piece has a lot of subliminal messages. One of them is very obvious – a chain reaction which starts when the man with the axe hits the fish tank. The fish will die and Venus will start to “cry” as the water pours down on the doll and the rose petals. A “modern” Venus is placed in the top left corner.
Even though Colvin’s work is not yet widely recognised, he has created art which reveals it’s inner beauty the more you view and examine it.
