Tips for drawing people.
To be a good artist, you don’t need to be perfect. One of the great things about art is that there is so much freedom in what you can create. But if you want to draw people well you need to know a few things about anatomy and pay attention to detail.
Proportions are very important when drawing a person. A man is usually eight heads tall while women are seven or seven and a half, though you can play with the height as much as you want. Also, the leg length is usually equal to the length of the torso and head combined and arms are as long as the shoulder to the groin area. From the groin, the hands go about half way down the upper leg. Hands can also be measured as a head in length.
Once you’ve drawn the rough outline of your person you need to think about his or hers clothes. Always be thinking about how gravity would affect the wrinkles in the clothes and how they would drape around the body. For example, when you lift your arm in the air, your shirt sleeve falls down around your shoulder instead of lifting into the air with your arm. These small details will make your drawing much more lifelike.
Continuing with details, pay close attention to expressions on a person’s face and the wrinkles that appear. For example, when a person is angry they lower their eyebrows and pinch them together, creating wrinkles on the
