He’s Got Lego and He Knows How to Use Them: Insane Lego Models
The building blocks of colors and the complexity of this particular form is a rarity when looking into the eyes of the art world.
I remember back when I used to play with construction toys, yes I did this. I was a tomboy what can I say. I had buckets of Lego’s sitting around but, never in my wildest dreams would I ever imagine a piece of art much like Nathan Sawaya.
Normally, during exhibitions there are pieces that are conveyed in color, clay, raw materials, sand, and so many others. However, when Nathan Sawaya decided to construct art based on the human form made entirely out of children’s building blocks, art took a new turn with new ideals.

The building blocks of colors and the complexity of this particular form is a rarity when looking into the eyes of the art world. Nathan saw life, form, color, and movement all within the blocks of a plastic toy. The depth of the artistry and movement of the forms is unlike anything anyone has ever seen.

Sawaya’s earliest exhibition was in the Spring of 2007 at the Lancaster Museum of Art. “The Art of the Brick is the first major museum exhibition in the U.S. to focus exclusively on the use of LEGO building blocks as an art medium.” He took inanimate objects, life, and household trinkets and transformed them into works of art.

A powerful and humbling moment experiencing this point in time that is frozen in toy blocks. A piece of art that will withstand the test of time and remain a symbol of what is great with out country, at least a moment.

Nathan gained attention in 2004, when he won a nationwide search for a professional Lego Master Model Builder. Nathan only worked for the Lego Corporation for a little over 6 months when he decided to open his own studio.
As an artist that already specialized in large scale models and mosaics, Nathan Sawaya is now contracted out by dozens of companies that demand a one of kind piece.
