Jennifer Maestre’s Amazing Pencil Art

Jennifer Maestre’s Amazing Pencil Art

A look at a very talented lady’s works of art.

Maybe you know about Jennifer Maestre’s Amazing Pencil Art but to me when I came across her work I was thinking more of pencil drawings so decided to take a look. What I got was a jaw-dropping experience as I looked at the most beautiful art I’d ever seen. Jennifer doesn’t use her pencils to draw but rather cuts them into one inch pieces, thousands of colors and sews them together producing the most awesome art that you could ever imagine.

Jennifer is South African born but now resides in Massachusetts. Her work is not an easy task so it’s not hard to see that she is passionate about what she does. Each one inch piece of pencil has to be cut to an inch and drilled; they are sharpened at the other end then sewn together using the peyote stitch to make the most spectacular art that was ever conceived.

Jennifer let sea urchins inspire her thought provoking work. When these colored pencils are cut into one inch pieces Jennifer sews them together to form her amazing artwork. Like her work portrays the sea urchins are both dangerous and spectacular at the same time. Her work is so realistic you dare not reach out to touch it less you feel the sting of the sea urchins spines but still it dares you to touch.

Jennifer uses the mixture of two textures one that is stunningly spiny while the other is smooth. This only adds to the allure of her artwork that begs to touch. We all realize the use of pencils but it was Jennifer that found such an amazing use for them.

Thanks for sharing this information. I’ve never heard of this artist or this type of art before. I enjoy drawing and I thought that I was going to be viewing someone else’s pencil drawings when I clicked on your article. I got a pleasant surprise though.

Like the rest, I’ve not heard of this art nor the artist herself.
I’m awed. I have junk colored pencils in my shelf. Wonder what I can make out of them.
