Michelangelo’s Pieta: True Vision

Michelangelo’s Pieta: True Vision

My interpretation of the Pieta.

This is Michelangelo’s rendition of Mary holding Jesus lifeless body after he was taken down from the cross.  As Mary looks upon the shell of her first born son, you can guess the anguish in her face.  The artist truly captured it.  She holds him like a baby that is merely ill and not dead.  It seems that all the tears have been cried.  Let’s look closer.

Look at this one.

Closer still, you can see the anguish in her eyes.  The furl in her brow.  The longing to have her son back in this world with her.  I am a mother.  I could not imagine looking upon my child like this.  Neither do I want to.  If one is to bury the other, then my son will bury me.

Mary seems somewhat at peace.  I am sure Jesus becoming aware of the hour of his death sent someone to let his mother know.  How sad I am for her, but how good his life was for humanity!
