The origins

For the first time, it was seen in the drawings of Leonardo da Vinci. The legendary genius painted some of his most vivid imaginations on the paper, which became masterpieces in due course of time. These included drawings of anatomy of animals – either in whole, or their parts – of birds and of humans themselves. This was, by no means, ordinary art, but creative outpourings of a genius mind.

Here, the art depicted was different, in that it was related to the internal organs of the human beings. People could observe and analyze the workings of human organs for the first time. Numerous complicated life processes were made easier by the painter, by painting the minutest details about them.

Apart from that, Leo was amazing with hitherto unknown machinery. For example, he imagined the parts of a helicopter and then painted it on the paper. And other things he painted were a drawing of different sections of the body. He painted tendons, muscles, nerves, etc in finer detail. The visibility was superb and the themes chosen were done in a brilliant way.

Other examples

Many examples can be cited where art has been used in combination with science. For instance, in yoga we find the techniques followed to the finer details, so that the essence is captured. In fact, seen in a proper context, science is the basic structure on which any discipline stands.

Why, even music seems to follow the essential elements of science in it. This becomes understandable, as it is science alone, through which one can strike a perfect balance. This in turn reflects in the final product which is there for all to listen to. A harmony which soothes the senses can be possible, only if the basic techniques are followed in letter and spirit.

Presence of art and science

The combination of art and science can be observed anywhere. There are a lot of cases where science in combination with arts has achieved the impossible. In engineering, it comes forth through numerous structures which speak for themselves.

For example, located at the Sydney harbor, the opera house building actually has utilized some very simple rules. Despite looking complicated from outside, the drawings submitted were simple to understand. Even the higher authorities were in complete agreement with that.

Perhaps, it is a fact that it is simplicity alone which inspires. Simplicity in design helps further in the development of the complex structures, but the basic formula remains the same.

The combination of art seems to follow this basic principle everywhere. But then it also depends upon the kind of subject chosen and the approach taken.
