The Real Alternative Art: Step Into the World of Stunning Toothpick Sculptures

A picture album of some stunning sculptures made from the lowly toothpick. Images range from the Mona Lisa to the Golden Gate Bridge, but they all have one thing in common – perfection.

The first four are sculptures from an artist called Steven Backman. These and more can be found at his site called The Essence Of Patience.

A replica of the Golden Gate Bridge. This was made from 1 single toothpick and glue. I’m still trying to work out how this one was done…

The San Francisco cable car. This was created from four thousand toothpicks.

This sculpture of Mona Lisa was created from 27 toothpicks and glue. How do you create round lines with straight toothpicks?

This yacht was made from ten thousand toothpicks and weighs more than fourteen pounds. It also contains two 6-volt electric motors and has been covered with fibreglass to keep it afloat.

These next four unbelievable toothpick cities were found here. These are masterful creations with unmistakable resemblances to the real things.

It’s just mindboggling how much time and effort goes into this, as opposed to just throwing a tin of paint onto a canvass and calling it art. Here are a couple more found here.

I came across these while researching for another substantial article, and thought that it would be a shame if I didn’t share it with my Triond friends. As artists ourselves, with words as our paint brush, we can certainly appreciate the love and dedication that went into these pieces.

Three cheers for real artists!

how neat!! These people have to be the most artistic – and patient – people on the planet. I could not imagine having the skill to do this. Great article. Thanks.

Beautiful work. How ever did he find the time? I have a beautiful jewelery box made of tooth picks that I purchased at the inmate store while working at the prison. The beauty is so intricate.

Thank you for sharing. This was a rare treat.

They are all soooo amazing! Thank you very much for sharing this.
I have a brother who is an artist, but he dabbles in painting mostly (murals, modern art). Will feature his works one of these days too.

I love it. I love the commitment that toothpick art shows. Especially the Mona Lisa, seeing that the toothpicks were bent.

Wow, it really amazing that all these things were made from toothpicks. I guess they are for more than picking food out of your teeth.
