Toilets As Art
Toilet Art from the Denver Museum Of Contemporary Art and other toilets that can be considered art.
Human urine in a toilet at the Denver Museum of Contemporary Art

Image From Wikipedia
I consider many things “artsy” but a tolet filled with urine is really pushing it. This image of a urine filled toilet bowl is on display at the Denver Museum of Contemporary Art. I do not consider this art but then again I do not work for the Denver Museum Of Contemporary Art.
Rustic Outdoor Potty
Image via Wikipedia
The rustic outhouse. Outhouses like this were generally used only in warmer climates. In cooler climated the traditional wood encased outhouses were used. An open design like this rustic outhouse helped alot with air circulation to help with odors but if you live in a climate where you have to go use the outhouse and its 10 degrees outside then you will want the fully enclosed outhouse to keep the cool air out as much as possible.
This image is considered “artsy” to me because it shows the hardships our ancestors had to endure.
Sanisette – The Self Cleaning Toilet

This self cleaning toilet in paris is something our forefathers could not of even imagined. This is high tech toiletry.
Street Urinal In Belgium

A combination of old cheap urinals and a modern welded frame. This outdoor urinal could be beautiful if they would paint it in bright colors.
Squat Outhouse
Image via Wikipedia
It appears as any of the traditional enclosed outhouses look but this one does not have the seat insider. It is designed for “squatting”. The beauty of a “squatter” is the workmanship. It can easily be upgraded to have a seat.
Lip Urinals

Urinals have been designed in all shapes and colors but these lip urinals will spruce up any public restroom.
Toliets, urinals, outhouses, and port a potties will always be seen for their main function but their will always be a few artist who will see the toilet as a canvas for their work.
In the western United States there are still many outhouses that were built in the early 1900’s. These wood outhouses still stand. Between the bugs, people, rain, snow, and wind they have managed to stand for 50 years. These rare pioneer outhouses are a tribute to the builder. A quality built outhouse was a sign of good craftmanship.
The artistic merits of a toilet do not have to be the design or color of the toilet. It could be simply in the layout. When you go to a large event and their are hundreds of plastic “port a potties” strategically placed you may see what I mean. From one angle they look like just a bunch of “port a potties” but at a different angle you might see the beauty of them.
I find artistic merits to all of the toilets I share din this article except for the toilet display at the Denver Museum of Contemporary Art. Art is in the eye of the beholder but I doubt many people would find an eye for their display of urine in a toilet.

I have to say, I like it. All except the first photo, however. I believe we share the same sentiments on that one.
