How to Win a Monopoly Game
Although monopoly is a game mostly based on luck, the more skilled players have some tactics that can increase their chances of winning.
First, you’ve got to know the odds of the dice rolls. 7 is the most likely, followed by 6 and 8, 5 and 9, 4 and 10, 3 and 11, and 2 and 12.
The colour groups have different chances of landing on too. Orange is the most likely, followed by red, pink, yellow, light blue, green, deep blue and purple (in order).
When thinking to buy a property or not, the rule is: if it completes a colour group of your own, then buy it. Also buy property if it stops an opponent from completing their own colour group.
A good buying guide would be: buy a whole orange colour group if you can, buy railways, not utilities. And buy more red and pink properties if you can. Also stop your opponents from creating whole colour groups as well.
When you have completed a whole colour group of property, you are entitled to houses. If you’re trying to think to build a house or not, the rule is usually build build build until you have 3 houses on that property. The prices will be very high after 3 houses are built.
When starting out in the game, if you get sent to jail, then you should immediately pay the fine of $50 to get out and buy more property and completing more colour groups. But later in the game, the board can be very dangerous and a simple chance card and force bankruptcy very quickly. So later in the game, just roll the dice and hope you don’t throw doubles.
There are 16 chance cards and 16 community chest cards in each complete set. The chance cards usually tell you to go somewhere on the board. There is also a “go to jail” card, a “make general repairs on your property” card and a “get out of jail free” card. The community chest cards usually tell you to collect money from the bank, and I’m certain that you’ll be happy to do that. There are three “pay fees” cards and also a “go to jail” card, a “you have been assessed for street repairs” card and a “get out of jail free”. The street repairs card in the community chest pile is a bit more expensive than the chance one.
You should also create a building shortage, and slowly change your houses into hotels and build more houses. That way, you will be way ahead of your opponents in improving properties.
Also learn from your opponents mistakes in gameplay and look out and be ready when you’re faced with the same situation.
