MTG – Top 10 Cards with Mana Cost of Zero
Taking a look at the best cards ever printed with a mana cost of zero.
Cards with mana costs of zero are good. Not to mention ridiculously fun. What’s better than playing a card for nothing? Anyway, there are several cards that cost zero to play, and almost all of them amazing. This list takes a look at the best of the best! However, a quick disclaimer, I did not include any of the origianl Mox cards or Black Lotus, because they would take up too much space on the list. Plus, you all know those ones! So, if this list included them, Black Lotus would be at the top and the Moxes would be second. Now on with the show!
#10 Zuran Orb

Who needs something like Dark Heart Of The Wood when you have this card? It costs zero to play and you can sacrifice a land at any time to gain two life. This card is great at any point in the game and can save your butt. In any deck where you think your life might dip a little lower than you’d like, throw this card in there! It’s a great way to keep just far enough ahead of your opponent so that they won’t take you out.
#9 Crimson Kobolds, Crookshank Kobolds, & Kobolds Of Kher Keep

These cards where awesome. They were kind of set up to be tribal early on in MTG, but they were really about costing zero mana. Plus, cards that boosted kobolds like Rohgahh Of Kher Keep sucked. Either way, these cards were unique in that they were the only creatures ever to have a color and cost zero mana. All the other creatures that cost zero mana are artifacts. These are really unique cards and something that if you get your hands on you can always use somewhere.
#8 Phyrexian Walker

One of my personal favorites from Visions, this card is just a great little blocker. I prefer it to Steel Wall because it’s free of course! Anyway, you can’t say much more about it. I mean, that’s all it does!
#7 Ornithopter

This was the first creature to ever be printed with a mana cost of zero. Players marveled at the concept. Perhaps at the time they speculated that many more creatures would be printed with mana costs of zero, however they would be disappointed. The this list has all seven creatures that have mana costs of zero. Will there ever be another? Who knows? Anyhow, this card is a step above Phyrexian Walker because it has flying, which gives it an added advantage as a blocker.
#6 Shield Sphere

Oh yeah, this card is sweet. It isn’t even a rare. Just an uncommon! Anyhow, you can see why this is the best creature that costs zero mana. It’s huge! Of course, it does shrink each time you block something, but you’ll still get a lot more use out of it than all the other creatures showcased so far. They don’t make them like this anymore!
#5 Lotus Bloom

Even though there’s no Black Lotus on the list, there’s still a Black Lotus on the list! This card is Black Lotus; It just takes three turns to bloom. You can never argue with three free mana, so this card is very useful. Throw it in any spectrum deck because it can help you get that color you just can’t seem to draw into. Timespiral was awesome because of cards like this. It felt like the good old days of MTG… Ah, nostalgia.
#4 Chrome Mox

And here’s a Mox! But don’t forget, I said there wouldn’t be any of the original Mox cards. Ha. Loophole. Anyway, this card does require you to remove a card from your hand, but it’s worth it. This card then adds mana of the removed cards colors to your mana pool. This means if you have a five color card in your hand then you can tap for any color of mana with this card. Pretty awesome, right? It essentially is every mox card ever printed and because of that has a lot of power!
#3 Lotus Petal

Why remove a card from your hand when you can get one mana of any color with just this card alone? Of course, you must sacrifice this card (just like Black Lotus), but think about it. This card is usually part of first turn win combos, so you don’t need to use it again. It’s another great card and I always love to use them!
#2 Lion’s Eye Diamond

You better know how to use this one kids! You dump your hand but get three mana of any color. Make it count! Seriously though, that’s all I’ve got for this one.
#1 Mox Diamond

Discard a land and you’ve got yourself a continuous version of Lotus Petal. What’s better than that? Well, nothing! This is the number one card! This card is useful in any multicolor deck and has instense value to a player. It still retails for about $40.00. Give or take five bucks. It’s an awesome card and shows how great the Rath Cycle was. I mean, this card and Lotus Petal were from the same cycle! Talk about awesome.

I am pretty sure that he adressed your issue at the top of the page, BRUNO, unless he updated his list. Anyway, whats with artifacts being free? I swear, with all these ridicules artifacts, I think the makers of MTG are a little biased towards artifacts, making them bigger and badder them any other color pretty consistantly.
