MTG: Top 10 Fallen Empires Cards
Taking a look at the best cards from Fallen Empires!
Fallen Empires is right up there with Homelands for being one of the worst sets in all of MTG. The problem with the set was that the rare cards were worthless and the common cards were amazing. On this list there is not a single rare (except for an amusing card that I will share with you simply for the fun of it). There is only one uncommon card. Nine out of ten are common. This should be a warning for you. Well, one good thing about the set was that you always got something good in your booster because commons are always plentiful! Anyhow, let’s get this underway and look at the best cards of Fallen Empires!
Strange And Bizarre

To give you a taste of the terrible rares that existed in this set, here is one of them. It’s horrible. However, it’s actually one of the better ones. The reason I wanted to show this card is purely based on the illustration. What’s going on there? It’s an absurd illustration. That’s all I wanted to say.
#10 Basal Thrull

This card is the predocessor of Blood Pet. It has to tap to sacrifice and costs two mana to play. It does add one more black mana than Blood Pet, but that isn’t anything crazy. It was a good way to accelerate black mana production. I still see this card in casual play today. It only appears in Homelands.
#9 Spore Cloud

Spore Cloud is the expensive Fog. It works basically works for two turns unless your opponent saved some big creatures or plays some stuff with haste. It also has an achille’s heel to vigilance, but nothing that can’t be handled. It was a decent card and saw some game time a few years after it’s release. It’s not really used now unless all your Fog cards are taken. This card was only printed in Fallen Empires. Come to think of it, all these cards were only printed in Fallen Empires except for our next one…
#8 Goblin War Drums

This is the only card on this list that was reprinted in a regular set (I’m not including duel deck releases or time shifted cards). This card is actually surprisingly powerful! It forces your opponent to really hold back their assaults for fear of big damage coming their way. It was reprinted Fifth and Seventh Edition.
#7 Icatian Javelineers

This card is very useful and appeared in the time shifted portion of Time Spiral. It’s a one drop that kills other one drops. You can save the token for later, or use it right away. It’s a cool card that’s very useful to have. Don’t underestimate the little guys.
#6 Order Of The Ebon Hand & Order Of Leitbur

These cards have had about eight knock-offs or copies of them. Both of the originals only appear in Fallen Empires though. They work against each other and have very strong abilities. You can give them first strike or boost them. The protection is what it’s all about. Throwing one of these in a deck always seems to come in handy one day. I’d say if you can use one, then do it!
#5 Thallid

This set introduced saproling tokens. Oh, if they only knew then what Mycoloth knows now. Anyway, this was really interesting because before this there wasn’t really a lot of token generation. It was a new and interesting concept. This card, and cards like it, got a lot of kill spells wasted on them right before they got three tokens on them. It’s one of the best one drop cards around and a great card to throw into any green deck as a chump blocker that might just make some extra chumps!
#4 Thelonite Druid

This is the only uncommon appearing on the list. In my opinion, it could actually be a rare. What’s cooler than turning all your forests into 2/3 creatures? I mean, you can’t do it with just any land, but these creatures are significantly bigger than the usual creatures created by land vivification spells. It’s a cheap cost to play this card and a cheap cost for the ability. I’d say use this card! It’s awesome!
#3 Hymn To Tourach

This is one of the best discard spells ever. It forces an opponent to discard two cards at random. For two mana. Enough said.
#2 Goblin Grenade

Here’s a card that is necessary for any speedy goblin deck. Five damage for one mana and a goblin? Four Raging Goblin cards and four Goblin Grenade cards means twenty damage (well, hopefully a little more actually). What a card! It’s very powerful and has a knock off version called Fodder Launch, which pales in comparison, but still has its own charm. Stick to your roots and use the original!
#1 High Tide

This card is outstanding. It’s pretty much the only one of its kind. Only Bubbling Muck (same card but for black mana and a sorcery) is as noteable. This card was a common and has never been reprinted. Don’t screw this up Wizards! This card is an amazing gem that only the players who’ve been around for a while know about. It’s for cards like Leviathan and those other huge blue creatures and spells. It’s an amazing card and is so fun for Isochron Sceptor. It’s a great card and there should be one in every blue deck. Fallen Empire’s crowning glory.
