MTG: Top 20 Dragons Cards of All Time
The picks for the biggest and baddest dragons ever printed in Magic The Gathering.
Dragons have always been cool. If you’ve ever owned a dragon, you’ve definetly put it into at least one deck. This list is dedicated to the top 20 dragons of all time. These are my personal picks, so please feel free to comment about any dragons you feel should have made the list. Without further delay—-
#20 Shichifukujin Dragon

Not only does this card have an incredibly hard to find good quality picture, it is also literally hard to find one of these. This is one of the few unique cards in the game. I believe that there are only two in existence. However, if you read this cards ability, you can see that it is nothing to laugh at. For shear rarity and effect, this card comes in at #20 on the list.
#19 Dromar, The Banisher

This card is nothing to laugh at (neither are its brother dragons from Invasion), however, with so much focus on multi-colored decks today, it is less likely that this card will be able to send everything in play back to your opponent’s hand. This card is one of thos that became weaker over the years. Still good, but no longer great.
#18 Fire Dragon

An uncreative name for a card that has a pretty good effect! This card isn’t very well known, since it only appears in Portal. Needless to say, its use in a multi-colored deck would be limited. This card is only good in a mono-red deck. The only problem is that it cost nine mana! For that much, I would gladly play some of these other dragons we’re about to see.
#17 Predator Dragon

A low cost dragon that can get just get huge. This card is just cool.
#16 Rakdos Pit Dragon

The thing that makes this dragon so good is that it costs so little mana. A 3/3 for four mana is good enough, but when it has fire breathing, and the potential for flying and double strike, well, that’s just amazing.
#15 Malfegor

Currently (as of March 17, 2009) the newest dragon in print, Malfegor is the second mythic rare dragon. His cost is a little heavy since you have to discard your hand. Your opponent must sacrifice creatures, but it might not be worth it if you’re holding onto some game changing instants. Malfegor is risky, but loveable.
#14 Scion Of The Ur-Dragon

A little tricky to cast, but this dragon is definetly worth it. This card has the ability to adapt to the situation you’re in with its ability to copy other dragons. It’s powerful and versatile.
#13 Bladewing The Risen

This card is really cool for a dragon deck. You get a free dragon right when you play it! Plus, who needs fire breathing when you can pump every draong in play! This card is a powerhouse.
#12 Vampiric Dragon

This dragon has some serious potential. Its ability to shoot damage at creatures slowly pumps it up over time. If you’re playing a deck full of 1/1 creatures then you’ll have a 10/10 dragon in no time. Yet another good card from the Odyssey Block.
#11 Kilnmouth Dragon

A 5/5 flying creature is good enough, but if this card is in a dragon deck it can mean the end of the game. If you reveal just two dragons in your hand, this card can tap for a guaranteed six damage to whatever you want. This card is even better when your opponent doesn’t have any flying creatures!
#10 Tek

This is a dragon that many people seem to forget about. This dragon is the perfect card for an artifact deck (or spectrum). Sure, it can only be a 4/4 at best, but a 4/4 with flying, first strike, and trample! This card is really under rated by people. Give this card a chance and you won’t regret it.
#9 Two-Headed Dragon

This dragon makes the list because it is a step up from the traditional fire breathing dragon. It’s a double-header! What makes it awesome is its ability to block an additional creature and that it must be block by at least two or more creatures. A very strong dragon for only six mana.
#8 Nicol Bolas

No, not the planeswalker, the original (even though the picture is the Timeshifted version!). This card was a beast back in the day. In fact, it is still a monster. The upkeep cost is a little annoying, as is the casting cost, but the power to make your opponent discard their hand is just awesome. The look on their faces- Priceless.
#7 Hellkite Overlord

The other mythic rare dragon appearing on our list: Hellkite Overlord! This card is a lot of fun since it can regenerate and has fire breathing. Not to forget, it also has flying, trample, and haste. This dragon was nice to see since it had been a while since the last big dragon had come out. We MTG players love big dragons.
#6 Vorosh, The Hunter

A controversial pick, I know, but this card definetly deserves its position on the list. You can easily get a 12/12 with this card. This card deserves its spot because of the shear power that this dragon can reach.
#5 Dragon Tyrant

Even though this card costs ten mana and has an upkeep cost of four, I can not seem to doubt its awesomeness. With flying, trample, and double strike, this card can do 12 damage every time it hits your opponent, and even more if you boost its attack. This card’s abilities greatly make up for its mana cost.
#4 Flameblast Dragon

This card is great for one reason: a Blaze every turn! Aside from the five damage this card will already do, it can do X more! In just two or three turns this dragon can take out your opponents life.
#3 Numot, The Devastator

What’s better than destroying your opponent’s land? Destroying target lands! In multiplayer, you can pick off the weaker opponent with the damge from Numor, The Devastator while destroying the stronger player’s land. This is one of the best Planar Chaos dragons. The only dragon better is…
#2 Intet, The Dreamer

This dragon almost made number one. Put this card in any deck and it will definetly pay off. However, think of it in a dragon deck, pouring out dragons every time it deals combat damage. This card is the best way to avoid those heavy mana costs. Crazy good dragon., but we have to get to number one.
#1 Teeka’s Dragon

Yes, I know what you’re thinking. You’re thinking, “This is the best dragon ever? WTF?” Well, just wait a minute and I’ll explainl. This dragon is awesome because it has flying and trample. That alone is great, but not great enough. It’s the rampage 4 that seals the deal. All you need is a Goblin War Drums and this dragon will be a beast. This is my favorite dragon of all time, and what I belive to be the best dragon ever printed.
Thanks for taking a look! Please feel free to comment about what you think is the best dragon or let me know any dragons you think should be on the list! Thanks again!

zodiac dragon doesn’t have flying so it’s not even as useful as dromar. it isn’t bad, i mean, you could enchant it or something, though based on its rarity and lack of offensive ability, i didn’t include it. it would be 21 or so though. i didn’t forget about it

No rorix bladewing? #12 Vampiric Dragon? With 8mana you can ping 4monsters sending them to the graveyard making him stronger adding +1+1 each 1damage he pings. 4monsters down he is now a 9.9 flying and already killed 4 monsters without even attacking/tapping, so 9 damage coming your way oh and i got lighting greaves on him too (equips for 0mana cant be target of spells or abilitys).

I think you should make a note of Dragonspeaker Shaman. I know it’s not a Dragon; However, There is nothing more important in a Dragon Deck than the Dragonspeaker Shaman card. Each Dragon spell costs 5 less to play. If you got 2 of those in play each Dragon costs 4 less (colorless) mana to play.
Also I think Rorix Bladewing deserves a spot in here.
3R3colorlesss (total of 6 mana) for a 6/5 Flying, haste Dragon. The drawback is of course his legendary status but his power and casting cost make up for it.

Draco {16}
Domain – Draco costs {2} less to play for each basic land type among lands you control.
Flying
Domain – At the beginning of your upkeep, sacrifice Draco unless you pay {10}. This cost is reduced by {2} for each basic land type among lands you control.
if done properly, only costs 6, and has NO upkeep. thats AMAZING for a 9/9 flyer.

you forgot about zodiac dragon?
