MTG: Top Ten Most Annoying Magic the Gathering Cards
A ranked list of my personal picks for the most annoying MTG cards ever. Warning: Annoyance may vary from player to player.
We’ve all had that moment where an opponent plays a card and you just want to give up; Not because the card is good, but because it just ruined your day. These cards are those annoying cards. Some are good cards that are just a little bothersome, while others will frustrate you to the point of insanity.

#10 Counterspell

Yes, although this card is actually really good, it comes in at number ten on the list. Have you ever been about to turn the game around? Either that or save your ass from lethal damage? It feels great to know that you’re finally in control– But really you’re not. Your spell is countered and you experience mild to severe frustration, depending on the situation.
#9 Wall of Glare

Wall of Glare is annoying because it has the ability to stop any assault you make. The only way to get through it is to have creatures with flying, trample, etc. However, chances are that if this card is out, you’ll have a hard time getting at their life. This card will at least be able to block every creature for one turn, then die. Mildly annoying, but no big deal. However, if someone puts on Unquestioned Authority on it (this give it protection from creatures). Well, then you weep quietly to yourself. How sad.
#8 Darkness/Holy Day/Fog

These cards are probably the best in all of MTG. However, due to their low cost and awesome effect, they come in at number eight. Better luck next time kid!
#7 Mycoloth

Aside from this card just being unfair, it slows down the game on a huge scale. Most likely, if this card is in a deck it revolves around saporlings and fungi. There are already a lot of counters and cards and tokens in play. Putting down Mycoloth means that during the upkeep phase the game can take up to an additional two minutes. What a jerk.
#6 Wrath of God

Although an awesome card, this can be a game ender. You’re about to wipe out your opponent and then all of a sudden you’re on the losing end. This card can turn a game around. Thank God for annoying card #10!
#5 Aether Flash

Ok, now we’re getting into the really annoying cards. Aether Flash has kept me from playing some of my best cards before. You’ll see it a lot in mono-red direct damage decks. The worst is when there is more than one in play. This card can stop you from playing any creatures and allow your opponent to shoot you with Shocks and Lightning Bolts to death.
#4 Peacekeeper

How annoying is this card? You’re about to swarm your opponent on your next turn, but all of sudden your creatures are useless. This card can be used for a slow mill in some instances, and it has happened to me before. Twenty turns of doing absolutely nothing. I’d like to reach over the table and tear this cards to bits… if I could attack that is.
#3 Arcane Laboratory

It’s starting to get ugly now. One spell a turn!? That’s bad enough, but the fact that this is a blue card is a recipe for disaster. I envision a deck full of counterspells so that every time you try to play your one spell, it gets tossed to the graveyard. Aside from this card being good, it slows the game to a crawl. Playing MTG isn’t fun if you can’t keep the game flowing. This card puts target player in the “No Fun” zone.
#2 Sands of Time

So, this card was almost number one. It is soooo annoying. Everything that is tapped untaps, and everything untapped taps. This card not only eats up game time because players must turn every one of their cards, but also it changes the way you have to play. Let’s say you want to have all your mana open for the next turn, but don’t have anything to play. You have to tap your mana and take burn so you can use it next turn. I’ve played with people who quit as soon as this card is played and I don’t blame them.
#1 Shahrazad

This card deserved what it got. This card is one of the three cards that are banned from every MTG tournament. Imagine having to play a game of MTG within a game of MTG. This card has the potential to make a game of MTG last forever. Imagine having four of these in a deck. This card wouldn’t just annoy someone; it would make them insane. You experience an anger like no one has ever experienced. This card is the most annoying card in all of MTG. There is no doubt. There is no discussion. It just is.
Thanks for reading the article! If you have any suggestions for more annoying cards, please let me know. I can always update the list, or make a new one!

I agree that the cards in your list are annoying. However, I think you could have expanded it a bit. The cards that annoyed the hell out of me in my play time are:
- Force of Will: this card is what classic and legacy are all about. If you are playing in either of these formats be prepared to face 4 of these in every opponent you play against. You just can’t compete in those formats without those cards, and when one card warps two entire formats I would say that’s pretty annoying.
- Nether void: I don’t think many people that play magic these days have had to face off against this card. it was played in the past in black red land destruction decks. Basically they would sinkhole you turn 2, stone rain turn 3 and nether void turn four. Then a black vise or two would take you out in a couple of turns while you couldn’t do anything.
- Black Vise: so degenerate that when it was standard legal every deck had these as automatic 4 ofs. It was quickly restricted after that. Basically, it warped an entire format and I consider it annoying for the same reason I do Force of Will.
- Chill/gloom: man these are some serious color hosers. Any single colored decks that have these played on them are in for some serious annoyance.
- Trinisphere: Same reason as nether void and force of will. degenerate in stax deck.
- Smokestack: read last entry and then read a match report from someone playing this deck. No fun at all.
- Winter orb/Stasis: Any card that prevents your opponent from playing is annoying. These cards were meant to “lock” your opponent out of the game, leaving you to play solitaire. Not fun at all.
That’s my list. Basically I don’t like any cards that result in one player not being able to do anything. Any deck that wins on turn one is not fun in my opinion.

Counters in general are annoying and damaging in every sense of those words so I agree with ten in some sense… in addition to all the format warping cards like Force of will and black vise and etc. if you want a truly “annoying card” end the debate with mindlaver and sen triplets…if your not annoyed when those effects happen to you…then your crazy
