What to Consider Before Purchasing Poker Chips
This is a guide of what you should consider before purchasing poker chips.
If you already play poker, or are wanting to learn, poker chips is obviously one of the main things that you will be wanting to purchase. If you already have a set of poker chips and you are wanting to upgrade, then it would also be a good time to do this.
Weight Of Chips
Most chips are made out of Clay and Plastic, and in the center of these chips, it has a small metal weight which is known as an ‘Insert’ these make the chip weigh more. Most chips are 11.5 grams, which is a decent weight chip, but if you are planning on using the chips a lot and want them to be more durable, then you should get the 14 gram chips which are the heaviest and highest quality chips out there. The 14 gram chips are classed as very high casino quality chips, so you should look out for the 14 gram chips, rather than the 11.5 gram or lighter.
Type Of Chips
The first thing you need to decide, is if you want the chips Numbered, or or Unnumbered. When people first think of Unnumbered chips, they sometimes assume that it will be complicated to remember the value of the chips. However i use Unnumbered chips, and i personally prefer them. Remember that there are not loads of different colors in a set, normally there are 4 or 5 different colored chips, therefore it isn’t hard to remember the values you assign to them.
A major benefit about unnumbered poker chips, is that you can make them high value so you can have a ‘High-Stakes’ theme, or you could have them as lower value. This also allows you to other Casino games with Unnumbered chips, for example, if you were playing poker, a green chip could be 50, but if you were playing Blackjack or Roulette, then these can become 1.
Amount Of Chips
When setting up a game of poker, the last thing you want to find out is that you don’t have enough chips for everyone and then you end up with each person having only a handful of chips each. Before you buy chips, think about how many people you will be having over. If you will have no more than 4 people, then you could get away with 300 chips. If you will be having between 4 and 6 people, then you will need 500 chips, and if you are having between 6 and 15 players, then you will need 1,000 or more chips. I normally play with no more than 6 players, and i use a set of 500 chips and easily have enough for everyone.
