Gambling: Is It Worth The Risk?

Gambling: Is It Worth The Risk?

Would you risk it all?

Gambling has been around for ages. In most places gambling is still illegal.
Many well-to-do people, businessmen and college students get caught up in a form of gambling called sports betting.

Horse races, Football, basketball, any sport can be subject to sports betting.
Should sports betting be outlawed everywhere or allowed on a regulated basis?
I think it is a matter of moral opinion.

This article is to weigh the pros and cons of legalizing this particular gambling form. First, lets weigh the cons, Gambling is addictive, financially risky and often there are more losses than wins. To say the least, the odds are on the house.

Sports betting might be lucrative, granted but at the same time sports betting is probably the riskiest form of gambling there is.
Some people are more gifted gamblers than others.
I myself believe gambling of all forms, if legalized should be regulated.

The pros to gambling as a legalized sport would be that it can be lucrative. However one should ask themselves, is the gain worth the risk?

I am neither encouraging gambling nor discouraging it, simply saying this, If you do it, do it legally. Before you even get into it, weigh the benefits, risks and consequences.

The statement that Sports Betting is the riskiest form of gambling is just not true. The other casino games all have a built in house advantage –no so with sports betting. The line setters for sports outcomes simply cannot predict the outcome of any game. They set the line as to how they perceive the betting public will take sides. They will be close to the line about 60% of the time. There is no built in house mathmatical advantage. They are are a dis-advantage when they put up their number for all to pick at and find their weakness. How do you explain their Superbowl number at minus 12 New England. This mistake line happens a lot and smart people take it to the bank. So just think how vulnerable and uneasy these line setters feel when they post their number. They are also gambling and this makes sports betting one of the least riskiest if you know what to look for and exploit.

I agree that betting, as is the same with any and all things, should be carefully considered before being jumped into. It’s much like Cigarettes, people should know what can happen to them before making that decision. Not only whether or not to start, but how much they should use the product, as well as likelihood of getting cancer, rather via the environment in which they work, or genetics, or all of those factors and more. I used to work in a Casino. I have seen what gambling can do to people. It is quite sad. I had a guy lose $1,000 in one night, and leave crying that he couldnt pay his rent. (literally crying) I had a lady who needed to take care of her elderly mother and brushed it off in favor of gambling from the start of my shift, until 1:30 in the morning when the Oregon lottery shut down. It can be dangerous, it can literaly ruin lives, and should be considered carefully.
