I’ve heard so many people tell stories of how they would spend their lottery money if they won. I even know a guy that has fantasies of winning but he never buys a single ticket.  The first thing you must do is play, which is a no brainer.  You simply can’t win the lottery if you don’t play.  This article however will cover the ways to optimize your chance of winning.

Once you have squeezed that dollar out of your wallet you need to use it wisely.  There are several methods such as wheeling.  Wheeling is a method of picking a group of numbers and playing all of the combinations.  For example if the drawing is for five numbers you pick six and then play every combination of those six numbers. But how do you pick the best six numbers for that game? Winning the lottery is not just dumb luck there is skill and strategy involved.

You generally don’t want to pick all odd or all even numbers. Chances are they won’t all come up.  Also if you pick all consecutive numbers or patterned such as 5, 10, 15, 20, 25 it’s highly unlikely the numbers will get picked.  There is always a chance they will, but still highly unlikely.

Study the past performance of the numbers. Hot numbers are numbers that tend to be drawn frequently.  You want to balance your numbers so you have some hot numbers, some cold numbers that are overdue, and some in between.  Never pick all low number or all high numbers, balance it out. 

Watch for synchronicity with numbers.  Meaning if you happen to see the number 32 popping up in other drawings it’s likely to appear in yours.  If you see the number 32 popping up on your check out slip or bank statement all in the same day then the universe is speaking to you, play that number.

Also people tend to pick birthdays which is a bad idea.  I’ll tell you why.  There are not more than 31 days in a month.  This means if you choose all birthdays then all of your numbers will be 31 or less.  This doesn’t give you the balance you need.  The other reason it’s a bad idea to pick birthdays is when the numbers do come up you’ll split that jackpot with a lot more people.  So the jackpot might be a million dollars but if twenty people picked those winning numbers then you just lost most of the pot.

Never play out of desperation.  If you only have ten dollars left in your pocket and need that money for your kids lunch money, don’t spend it on a lottery ticket.  You need to feel like a winner to be a winner.  The old saying when it rains it pours applies to gambling.  If you have an extra ten dollars and you feel lucky then I’d say it’s ok to spend that money, just don’t get addicted.  Once you win some money you could feel a high and end up spending too much trying to win that jackpot.  Never spend more than you can afford.  If you like playing the lottery set aside a budget. Just as you would include groceries or utilities in your budget, set a reasonable amount aside for the lottery and stick to it.
