List and Guide to Pay-to-play Mmorpg’s
Like playing MMORPG’s in high quality? Got some cash? Read my guide to see a list, review, and rating of the best Pay-to-Play MMORPG’s!
Like MMORPG’s? Got money? Here’s a list of pay-to-play MMORPG’s, each with a description, personal rating, and a link (In no particular order).
World of Warcraft
World of Warcraft, or WoW, is probably the best known MMORPG in the western world. With a player base of over 8 million, it’s one of the best games out there. There’s a lot to do, from mining to enchanting, thousands of quests, a PvP (Player vs Player) system, Party & Guild systems, you name it!
There are a total of 10 races (8 in the original game, 2 added in the expansion), 9 classes, and split into two factions, to allow a giant character customization.
The game is getting old now, with outdated graphics, but it’s still constantly updated with new content, and is very fun.
8.5/10
Lord of the Rings Online: Shadow of Angmar
Lord of the Rings Online, or LoTRO, can be called the direct competitor of WoW. Turbine (The company that made it) used the WoW formula, took it apart, and rebuilt it, to try to make it better.
It also has multiple professions (such as lore, mining, blacksmithing etc), which are basically the same as wow. The quests in LoTRO are more story based and varied than WoW, though it has less than WoW. The PvP system in LoTRO is quite unique. Instead of breaking the story and having allied factions attacking each other, players can play as monsters, fighting other people in a special zone, that comes with its own quests etc.
There aren’t as many classes and races as WoW; there are a total of 4 races and 7 classes.
The game is quite new, and if you have a good pc, you can get the best looking graphics in a MMORPG to date.
9/10
Lineage II
Lineage II is one of the most popular MMORPG’s in Korea, though not as much in America.
The game revolves around hack n’ slash, but it does have a fishing system. The game has a large grind (repeatedly killing monsters in the same spot to level up). It doesn’t have that much quests, though it does have a decent array of races and classes. The classes will branch out into other ones after reaching a certain level.
The game is updated through “chronicles” which are like expansions packs, except they are free.
I never liked it much because of the repetitive grind.
6/10
Everquest I & II
Everquest.station.sony.com,
Everquest2.station.sony.com
Everquest I and II are two very popular and fun games, albeit a bit old. They closely resemble the old Dungeons & Dragons games. People do quests, fight monsters etc. There are crafting systems in the game, similar to WoW or LoTRO.
The difference between the two Everquest games is basically graphics, and different items etc.
The game was quite addicting, just a bit old.
- 7/10 for Everquest I
- 7.5/10 for Everquest II
Dungeons & Dragons Online
Dungeons & Dragons is one of the world’s most famous pen & paper game. Now it’s in the form of an MMORPG too!
Dungeons & Dragons is unique compared to other MMORPG’s. It very story heavy, and quests play in an instanced zone, meaning that only you/your party can access it.
There is no grind in this game, as monsters don’t give experience points. Only completing a quest does.
But if you don’t have a party or don’t want to do quests, there is very little else to do, there is no crafting systems, no PvP, just questing.
If you get into a good party (it’s quite easy to find one) the quests can be very fun. The graphics are excellent, and this game is a must have for all D&D fans.
7.5/10
Eve Online
Eve Online has many interesting features. It features a unique characters which can seek power, riches, and fame, One can become a captain, trader, or an officer to name a few. The game also presents differences from the majority of MMO’s. Especially, it’s not all about having to kill and kill things. There’s a lot about customizing your ship, and traveling the universe.
However, it failed to deliver on some of its promises. There are no rewards and risks, leaving the world to seem rather empty. Eve Online also features rather slow paced gameplay.
But if you like spaceships, the graphics and some of the gameplay elements is more than enough.
7/10
City of Heroes
City of Heroes is a MMORPG that allows the player to start of as a powerful superhero. The player can then become ever more powerful by leveling up. It is eye-catching and easy to use, unlike some other MMO’s. It also allows large, fast fights.
However, it seems as if the only thing one can do in the game is killing hordes of enemies. It would not keep a player interested for a long time, if they look for something other than fighting.
Also, with the expansion pack, City of Villains, the player can play the opposite of a superhero; they play as a super villain. Even with this, core gameplay styles are still the same; killing hordes of enemies, just different ones.
6.5/10
There are many more pay-to-play MMORPGs out there, the only thing stopping me from giving more info on them is my wallet. But these games are professionally made, and will keep you happy for a long time, which is worth the money.
If you want to play free MMORPGs however, you can read this article for more info.

I’ve been playing EVE online for little more then 2 years now , i did play a lot of difrent mmorpgs and EVE is the only one i would heartly recommend … it has free 14 days trial so you have nothing to lose.Best thing about the game is:
-no grinding for level, your character is slowly learning skills and you don’t have to be online to do so
-PVP…. it’s the name of the game really and adrenaline really rushes because if you lose your ship you lost all the money you puted in it
-complexity , game is not hard but it’s very complex (helps driving off little WoW kids), after 2-3 years of playing you will still learn something new
-player driven economy , everything you see on the market some other player has created , npcs don’t sell anything

If u want the earliest mmo’s you gotta go back to Tibia, Runescape , diablo , and even earlier. Ultima online. some of the very first true mmo’s. Koreans deffinatly did not invent the mmo’s do a little research..

You guys are funny. I will admit, most mmos suck and most are full of noobsticks. But to straighten things out about MMO – Massive Multiplayer Online games – i would have to say they started with BBS’ (Bulliten Board Systems) which were around long before the internets, and they had text based games called MUDs (Multi User Domains). We had them in 1995 in the States so, if they had those in Korea before that, I guess they win, if not chalk up another glorious world crushing victory to the USA Bnitches.
