Gaming: Pros and Cons

Gaming: Pros and Cons

The effects of video games on youth.

The gaming industry has become one of the biggest industries because of the release of the new Next Gen systems (Nintendo Wii, X-box 360, and PS3. Wii is best in my opinion). There are also the pc games, like world of warcraft. It also has some of the biggest profits during the holidays.

For kids, playing games on the Internet, Computer, or a game system with a game CD is the next big thing. In the earlier days, when there were no computers, kids used to visit arcades with pockets full of change to play those big bulky machines. However, with the arrival of the computers and CDs, more and more kids, and teens enjoy playing games.

One of the disadvantages of games is that, some games are very violent in nature, which has negative effects on young minds(were talking about 9-12 year olds playing something like San Andreas here).

Apart from this, spending lot of time just sitting on a couch or bed makes a child less active, which brings up the issue of child hood obesity. Now I am not saying that video games are bad, I am saying that too much video games is bad. A child should spend more time playing outdoors.

In conclusion, video games can be extremely fun, but too much can’t benefit you in any way(except for bragging rights over your fellow gamers

I have to disagree, i am a very hardcore gamer (spending roughly 30+ hours a week playing, have to account school into that, so i play how much i can) but i am very active, i play football every year, and have played baseball since i was 4. So, just in my case, i would have to disagree with this statement.

and just a side note, it is also said that videogames stunt brain development, I happen to have a 125 I.Q. and have been playing since I was about 3, but I could just be an oddball. :p

I’m 17 and love video games. I also spend about 10-20+ hours playing video games a week. Not once have I experianced anything negative from playing video games. I do lots of activity to stay in shape. Every Monday, Wendsday, and Friday I get up and go to school early just to work out. I also have a job, and I’ll be graduating here in less than 2 weeks. I spend most of my time playing Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Call of Duty: World at War, and I am not an aggressive person, rarely am I angry. I’m very calm, collected and cool. Playing those games has not made me want to go out and shoot people, or beat the crap out of an individual. I do not have the incentive to re-enact the scenes from a game in real life. If a person does have that incentive then there was something wrong with the person to begin with. Video games do not tell people to go and do this. There is something in the perosn’s mind that is making them willing to do this, therefor the problem is traceable back to the family.

For everyones info if youre going to try and take a side in an argument, make it look proffessional and correct. That way people will not use your own stupidity against you.

I agree with your statement Gyser and HardCoreVideoGamer. I too play 20+ hours playing video games that are violent, but i do not have the incentive to go out and kill someone. I’m a sophmore in highschool, i attend college, i’m in Band, and i workout 2 to 3 times a day. I feel fine. Games can affect us in two ways, good or bad. The Wii Fit for example, Nintendo wants us to get in shape and stay that way. On the other hand, people have killed or been killed by Teens re-enacting scenes from “Mature” rated videogames. Although there are cons about it, there are also many pros about gaming.

people who play up to 10 hours have NO SOCIAL LIVES and are destroying their memory and brain along with it. it is not good for your health, and you need to get out their and start enjoying life, not be stuck in a room all day. and who ever enjoys doing that…well im giving my symphath to you now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
