Make Your Own Video Game: So Easy a 10 Yr Old Can Do It!
A list of directions for those who want to make their own free video game and post it online for all to play!
All you guyz out there who want to make their own video game or movie, here’s a simple way to make your ideas possible. With a great new program developed by MIT, I can make my own flash rpg in minutes. Here’s how…
1. Go to the website http://scratch.mit.edu/ and click where it says Download Scratch on the top right corner. As this is an official website of MIT, I guarantee that you will not get any viruses or bugs. If you want to learn more about scratch before downloading it, feel free to check out this page.
2. After you have this downloaded, click on the funny cat icon on your desktop. A new window should pop up. This is the scratch program in which you will create games with.
3.On the left side of the window, there is a blank space with tabs. You use block programing here to make your sprites (which are pictures that do things)move and change. For Example:

This block is for a drummer boy. When the program is started, the picture of the drummer boy will move forward in its direction 30 steps, a drum sound will play, and it will stop for half a second, change its image to look like a movement and repeat until it is touching the edge. Once it touches the edge, it will turn toward the opposite direction an keep moving.
4. There are many commands for scratch and you can virtually do anything. You can also program it so that your sprite moves when you press a key for a video game. You wont be perfect at first, but as you learn, you will definitely get a whole lot better. The best way to learn quickly is to play other people’s games and then download them to see how they do it. You can also mix other peoples creations to suit yourself.
The best thing about scratch is that you can share your creations by uploading onto the scratch website. From there, you can show your friends what you made just by going onto the scratch website. Now that you know how to do it, get going!
