How to Build an Awesome Fort in Your Dorm
Forts are an awesome place to hang, color, and play your gameboy.
Going to college?
Upset that you have boring furniture?
Be upset no more. You finally have a place of your own, and that means you can do pretty much whatever you want. This would include building a place for you and your new roomies to hang loose.
There are some materials you’ll need. Make sure you have a lot of sheets. Sheets work well because they are lightweight and do not cave in. you can use a heavier blanket, but it will not stay up as well. Use the sheets that have the elastic for the first draping. You’ll also need furniture to put the blankets over.
Base
If there is not carpeting, lay down a thicker blanket for the floor. it is not fun to sleep on the cold wood. It is also not comfortable.
If you have a good table, you might want to put this somewhere in the middle for extra sturdiness.
If you have a nice wooden desk or alcove, this is a super cool and cozy place to store stuff or even nap. I highly recommend including this space in your fort.
Basically, you should figure out where everything is going to go before you build the fort, because it can be hard hetting things in and out.
First Draping:
- Get some chairs, desks, end tables, cardboard boxes, or whatever else you can find. This is what you’ll be using as the base of your fort, so don’t use something youre going to need. Otherwise you have to take apart your fort, and that is sad.
- Use the sheet that you would cover your matress with first. it shouldnt fall off if you put the elastic around the edges of something. go for a good square shape. you can also just use three things and make a triangle.
Curtains:
- Now that you have a roof, take regular sheets and hang them down the sides so you are hidden. This will help you feel extra stealthy and awesome. The curtains should go slightly over the top of the fort. dont lay it all the way across. this is a waste of sheet and will just make the roof sag.
By this point you might be having some difficulties and need something to hold your sheets. You will need duct tape.
You have made a basic fort. If you want to expand it, step outside and look for things that it can be connected to. this is how you make multiple rooms and have a fort mansion.
Extras:
Make sure to have someplace to put your trash, because it will get gross if there is no designated place.
Kitties love forts. go get one and it will snuggle up next to you while you play pokemon on your gameboy.
Get an extension cord to go in the main room of your fort. put any chargers in here that you will need. you might end up staying for a while.
Enjoy your awesome fort!
