I decided to go back to college for business management. To be more exact the course that I have joined is Foundations of Business. This is one of the most important things I could have done with my life besides not joining a gang or robbing a bank. I have been in college now for almost a year (one week shy) and I have just now figured out that College is a full time job. This is making things hard for me but I am just now having some real problems.

The part that sucks is that I have not been able to find a job for the last year that will allow me to put the time into school that I need. I have been living off tuition the whole year and now we have a big problem. I am about to fail my classes. I am one week away from getting my tuition and if I fail my classes I will not get tuition which will mean I have no money for rent, internet and most importantly Food. I don’t know what I am going to do.
I have noticed that over this last year I have treated school like I treat my jobs. When I get board I just give up. But this is a life or death deal. I noticed that I would rather do other things instead of homework. Things like Facebook, website design, and blogging have become more important to me then school work. I have actually found that I get about an hour of sleep a night because I do this stuff rather than my work. It is almost like I have given up on life all together.

Then I have the other things that distract me from my school work, family is the big one. It seems like every time I sit down and do other things it is fine and then I get into doing my school work and everyone wants my attention. Taking the dog out becomes a chore for everyone els when I am doing my school work. I do try and talk to my family and tell them what I am doing and that I need to concentrate, but five minutes later it’s like I did not say anything.

Hear are some things I think my help get school work done. It might help some of the readers with the same problems.

1. Putting on my headphones

This will help drown out the noise that distracts me. Don’t crank the volume to a point you can’t hear yourself think, just loud enough to concentrate.

2. Move to a room or place that you can be alone.

I am finding Starbucks to be a very appealing place. It’s a good working environment because there is not many people that will bother you when you look like you are deep in thought. Also the people around me help me concentrate when they are not talking to me directly.

3. Set aside a time to play and a time to work.

I find that if I play before I work it is hard to get my mind of playing. Do the school work first and use the games and other stuff you would rather do as a reward for getting the work done.

This is what I have come up with today in order to help me get my school work done. I know this is probably a common list of things and I think my school has actually told me that when I started collage. I think in time we forget about things like this and wanted to share. I know everyone needs a reminder every now and then.

The next problem I am having is that all my work is online. I don’t know if you have ever had to look information up on line for a 1,500 word paper, but it is hard. Most of what is found is nonsense. Peoples thoughts on the topic or uneducated responses to news responses. The paper I am working on right now is on Hispanic American Diversity.
I Google the question to start my research and the first paper I found had the essay done and wanted me to pay for it. How does this make sense, if I pay for the paper I still have to write it. The school has ways of knowing if I plagiarize. I would still be doing the work. I would have to research and make sure the sources are correct, rewriter the paper, and make sure the resources are on my paper right. When I Google a paper I am not looking for the answers, I am looking for valid resources that will allow me to get the paper done.
The second one I found was talking about how they felt about Mexican Americans. What makes people think that I care about how raciest they are about a certain group? If I wanted opinions on a group I would type “What is your opinion….?” This all makes school work very hard to do and it seems like it is getting harder every day.

I think to fix this the computer smart people need to make a website that helps students. Rather than making a website like Facebook or MySpace. What about making a website that is real. Something likes Google that will allow students to find credible resources in an easy way. (The online library is no better than Google.)You could type your topic in the search bar and you would be given resources that fit your needs. It could be gone through by the webmaster and things that are not credible could be taken out. It’s just a thought. (Maybe I will work on that)
