Save Money in College
Three simple ways to save money when we are all basically broke!
College is a stressful time for almost everyone. It does not help that most of us are in financial trouble throughout our time in higher education. Here are Three simple ways to save money.
1. Live on Campus.
Although it may be tempting to move off campus after your freshman year you should fight the temptation because it will end up costing a lot in the long run. First, at nearly every college and university it will always be cheaper to live on campus PERIOD. Also moving off campus can mean paying for utilities and luxuries you had taken for granted in the dorms. These may include gas, electricity and items like cable and Internet. Paying for these utilities can complicate living arrangements with your roommates who may or may not want to pay for them, leaving you in an unfair position. Beyond this you will have to pay for more of your own food depending on where you attend. This means spending time and money at the grocery store and in the kitchen.
2. Use the meal plan to feed yourself instead of wasting money on outside food.
College meal plans may not include gourmet choices to please the Epicurean yet they will provide you with food every time, regardless of where or when. The food will always be there. This rule really comes into play if you attend a school in the city where everything costs more. If you can limit yourself to three or less meals off campus a week you should be fine.
3. Do not carry any cash with you, it will just be too tempting to spend it.
If it is possible do not carry cash. Personal experience proves that if i have cash i will spend it much faster than i would the same amount on my debit/credit card. Cash should only be withdrawn when it is needed. if you do this your bank account will not run dry as fast. This is very important if you do not have a job and are living on a tight budget.
