Science vs. Humanities

Science vs. Humanities

Here I want to state that every subject is important in its own way.

Science subject is considered as a superior subject in our societies. And students who take humanities as their major, are counted as inferior. A potential student who wants to take science as his major, is supposed to possess high percentage marks in lower grade class. But one can choose humanities as major even after being having low percentage marks. I think, this basis of selection for choosing major is itself responsible for making a distinction of science as a superior major. Here my question is that why science is considered as a superior major? Why a person who has got low percentage marks is given humanities even if his mind is sharp enough to understand concepts in science.

Science is a conceptual subject which needs logic. It has been subdivided into different sections: Physics, Chemistry & Biology, which further are divided into different specialization areas. Nevertheless, science is an integrated subject. If science is a rational subject which is revealing minute details of different systems in world, but it doesn’t argue that humaities is an illogical subject. What I think is that every subject has its own significance in this world. If it wasn’t important, then why it is still existing as a subject. Is it reasonable to say that it is less important than science. People think that science is importat because it is advancing our knowledge. I can argue that humanities is also increasing knowledge but on different topic. It is also considered that one has to break his head for learning science. I think every thing is difficult unless you learn.

Similar is with humanities. One has to start, learn and do. Since most of the educated people think that science is more important subject than humanities, so they are not even well aware of various areas in humaities. Though myself is a science student, I think humanities is a very hard subject. It also requires a lot of knowledge. It deals with various areas like political issues, human relationships, etc., which themselves are very complicated to interpret. It also requires some knowledge from science itself. Therefore, a student studying humanities will be well versed with different areas. In the nutshell, I would like to interpret that each subject is important and doesn’t have comparison to others. So one should not discourage either subject. Instead one should take his major keeping interest and desires in consideration, which will motivate towards excellence in subject.
