The Freshman Challenges
This is about the hardships of being a freshman and what you can do if they happen to you.
There are many challenges of starting high school. Many of which don’t seem like a big deal at first but believe me they start to take a toll on you. First off I’d like to say that I started high school and I had no worry at all I figured it would be fun and I would have a great time. I was wrong. I play soccer for my school and every day after school for 4 hours I have soccer practice. I don’t get home till 7:00pm. I take 2 honors classes and those classes alone are around an hour and thirty minutes. My point is that time starts to be a big deal and you need to learn to be organized and to not procrastinate otherwise you will have a very hard time. It was really tough at first learning to balance everything but I started getting the hang of it. I can say that my first quarter was a success having a GPA of 3.5. This shows that when you think you can’t make things work out in high school that you can, if you put your mind to it.
Next, you start to notice that you don’t have enough time for friends. You think to yourself “oh no way will my friends ever stop talking to me or hanging out with me,” but you’d be surprised. I started the first day of high school with my spirit high and then as the day and then weeks continued I started feeling alone and wasn’t feeling happy any more. Now I’m not saying that that will happen to everyone but it could. The reason why my friends and I weren’t as tight as we used to be was because we had no classes together and then with soccer after school the only time I could hang out was during the weekend. And when I would see if anyone could chill over the weekend I would be disappointed to find that they had already planned something and I hadn’t been involved. Although I was losing friends I was also gaining them. I started making friends from my soccer team. It turns out that most of them were in my classes. So when it seems like no one is there for you, just remember that there are over 300 million people in the U.s and that at least 1 person is there for you.
Now I can’t say that I know everything there is to know about high school because frankly I don’t I’m still an under classman. But I can share the things I know so that the people who are having a ruff time can try and relate to me. I’m popular with the entire freshman, I play soccer, and I skateboard, snowboard, and even play RUNESCAPE! So people who seem like they have it all, get down and emotionally brake down to. Remember, there is always more than what meets the eye. I started getting mad every day, felt like nothing was going good for me, I had nothing to live for, but I was wrong. I did have things to live for and I know that someone out there needs me. Whether I save there life, they fall in love with me, I become a big politician, or I do something as simple as donate change to a homeless person. The point is someone is always going to need you.
The key thing is to find out what keeps your mind off of things that are as stupid as getting depressed. For me I play Runescape while others may just listen to music but you need to find out what makes you tick. Once you find that out then you when ever your feeling bad about life you do what makes you happy and then you’ll find that afterwards you’re not feeling down anymore.
