Your Ex and College

Your Ex and College

Discusses the decision high-school couples make, particularly to break-up before they begin college.

When you break up for no reason other than that you’re going to different schools, in the same state, two hours apart from one another, you have to question your relationship. What is the real reason you two are breaking up? It’s definitely worth it to think these things through. The information contained in this article comes from personal experience and regret.

Although you may think that college will break up a relationship, the real relationship-breaker is that sort of thinking. If your relationship has lasted throughout your high school years and has come out relatively strong, why would a different school negate the bond you have formed?

However, there are things to consider. If meeting new people is the goal and focus of your college life, it may be best to begin unattached. But if this means you want to meet new friends, there is no reason to believe that you have to be single to start your college career. If your focus is solely to meet new boys to date or new girls to date, or to “play the field” (as much as that expression is outdated), then you may want to break your sweetheart’s heart and go off to your new school with your eyes open. However, it can be good to have someone to fall back on, or at least lean on, as you go into your new classes and a completely new era of your life.

In all, you can count on the decision being a tough one. But hopefully you make the right decision, and if you don’t, you can learn to live with it and grow from the experience.
