Creative Things for Teenagers to Do When Bored
For teenagers, the summer provides a well-deserved break from school, but in many cases, they end up bored by their second or third week of freedom. Googling “things to do,” “fun things to do for teens” or the like can end up being the only means of entertainment, and then only so they can laugh at how ludicrous, lame, or expensive their options are.

I’ve compiled a list of things that have kept me entertained or that I would like to do soon. I left off options like reading, writing, and artwork because I figured that these were a bit obvious and would be of little to no help.

Rent/buy a metal detector
This is the most expensive choice, and also the hardest to find, but a creative and interesting way to occupy your time is rent a metal detector. You probably won’t find anything of great worth, but you might find something cool, and the journey is more important than the destination, right? I’ve heard that bringing a metal detector to parking lots can help you find a lot of change, though not nearly enough to pay itself off.

Buy a black and white disposable camera
This is one of my favorite ways to entertain myself as well as providing an artistic outlet and preserving some memories of the summer. Many drugstores sell disposable black and white cameras at low cost. In this digital age, we are used to taking as many pictures as we want and being able to delete the bad ones. Take a little longer to set up your shots, and try to compose each one in a different way. If you can, restrict yourself to taking one photo per day, or per hour, to avoid boring repetitive shots. I got one of these cameras for Christmas, then forgot about it after taking a few shots. On a couple of occasions afterward, I would find the camera and take only a couple of pictures. When I got the pictures developed, I had 27 pictures taken over four months from at least ten different occasions. I put the photographs in a very small scrapbook that my friends and I still love to look at. If you want, carry your camera in your purse or pocket, and take pictures of unexpected things. The fun is in the way you won’t remember what you’ve photographed by the time your pictures are developed.

Make paintings as a group
My friend arranged this once as a graduation present for our entire group. She bought a bunch of cheap canvases, and we all sat around her dinner table, armed with brushes and acrylic paint. We’d each paint something for a couple of minutes, then pass the pictures clockwise. By the end, each piece had everyone’s individual art on it. We had a great time and ended up with a pretty cool keepsake.

Adventures at the Goodwill
Go through your old clothes that you don’t wear anymore, and bring them to a local Goodwill Store. Not only will your donations be helpful, you will have more space in your drawers and closet to actually find the things you like, or you can use that space for new clothes. While you’re at the Goodwill, give yourself a five dollar limit and see what cool things you can find. My best friend and I once got a game of Scrabble (no tiles missing) and an old-school Gap vest for less than six dollars!

Go on a picnic
My friends and I used to have a summer tradition of going on picnics at least once a week. We’d make crowns out of clovers, soak up the sun, or even fly a kite (or try, at least). Our picnics were fun because we were able to get everyone together and it was much cheaper than going to a restaurant or to a movie.

Sidewalk chalk-a-thon
Get some sidewalk chalk and go nuts! Okay, so this one is sort of lame, but also if you’re really bored, it can be fun. Create a border for your art, then make sure every space is filled with pictures, song lyrics, or whatever you want.

Try roller blading or bowling. go for a bike ride or walk to a part of town you’ve never been to. try to learn something new like, a new way to braid your hair or learn someone else’s hobby.

All these 13 year olds playing at being adults are pathetic. Trumpeting your imaginary conquests all over the internet really isn’t impressing anyone. In my experience, the guys who sat there throughout high school constantly talking about how awesome sex is were generally the ones with no experience, no chance and no idea. All girls know this. So keep talking — you’re making it easier for the girls to tell who is going to be worth it.
And don’t even get me started on the morons saying “smoke some weed”. You’re utterly juvenile. Being a stoner doesn’t make you cool, it makes you a car wash attendant.
Granted, the ideas for boredom cures listed here are pretty much girl oriented activities, so fair enough if they don’t appeal to teenage boys. But all you want to do is get stoned and have sex? Come on. Grow up. You’re an embarrassment to teenagers everywhere.

I’m 16, and all of my friends are out of town right now. so I decided to teach myself piano… that failed. But it gave me a good idea. Basically everyay I try something new, whether its cooking a recipe, origami, writing a story, learning a dance off of YouTube, etc, etc. Its great because I stay entertained and I learn new things (that sounded lame, but its not learning like educational, its learning cool things to show friends).
When I dont feel like doing that, I search for new music on the internet.

To everyone putting down the people who say it’s immature to talk about sex, they are right. Life’s not about sex, sex is something that was meant to be saved for marriage. Public school teaches you plenty about sex, and it’s not as if my friends don’t talk about it. But really, my plans for the rest of high school, college, and however long after that it is until I get married don’t include hooking up with anybody. I’m a virgin, and I say that proudly. i lik scrapbooking, sometimes i make a scrpbook of who i will marry in the future, our weddng, where we will live our children,our friends and family. then you can always follow the person you like around and take pictures of them to put in your scrapbook if you dont have any already. if you cant drive, in which case they are hard to follow get pictures of them off the internet, facebook, myspace, and so forth… if you have any questions or need help just ask im very experienced in this area.:)i can also help you hack their myspace for their password if they wont give you the pictures vollentarily[sp?]

Okay, I’m a teenager. When I’m bored, this is what I do…I go onto websites like these and read the comments people posten and have a great freaking laugh. Same goes for youtube. Go look up a song and read the comments. It’s pretty hilarious some of the topics you get.

Hi I’m 16 years old and love doing the usuals, until I met my mum’s friend who is totally awesome! She’s an artist and not only does she paint, she does everything and she’s even teaching herself to play the electric guitar. Wicked! Anyway, the first I met my mum’s friend, I thought “okay, another lame person” but hey, who would have thought, an adult, 26 years, female, wearing converse, loves playing Tekken and Guitar Hero???? She makes jewelleries, she sews, draws, paint, crayons, collage, mixed media, recycle stuff. Well, being 16 I’m always curious. One day, she was working on her clothes. I was mortified when I saw her tearing a really nice dress, cutting it with a pair of scissors, and all she had were those rags, scissors, needle and thread oh and buttons, and she ended up reconstructing another top of hers and ended up making something funky.
She takes photo too, digital photography and she digitally enhance stuff too. She writes poems and working on a fiction.
Right now, she is planning to teach creative arts (with a difference) and the catch is, you can listen to your ipod or whatever and still express your own ways. I saw her activities, outdoor stuff, and kids could design skateboards for those who skate or those who don’t could do it too, then, she’s thinking about getting spray paints and recently I saw her working on a cheap vinyl, you know one of those old black record vinyl thingy our great grandparents had before CDs were invented???? Yup, she scratched it, painted on it, put glue, you name it!
However, she need to think of an AMAZING title that would attract us teens, loads of incredible activities will be involved and not just what’s listed above.
She teaches the basic and we come up with our own ideas, it’s like expressing our own thoughts. If ya wanna see her work, I’ve typed her link in the website section.

This is the dummest list of ideas ever. Seriously, most teens, like me, don’t even have a car or parents willing to get them places. Best thing to do when you are bored – coming from experience – is have a circle jerk with your brother and dog. Not kidding, it kills some time and works on your forearm strength. Have Fun.

wow never tought of doing stuff like that I was just going to waist my life away on movies
