How to Make Oobleck and Slime
Ever wanted to make some of that icky, slimy, yet fun to play with goo that the kids love?
Want to make something fun and easy, that is stretchy, slimy, and fun to play with? Make Oobleck or slime! Quick and simple, made in five minutes or less, and all the ingredients found at Wal-Mart or Target!
Oobleck – just corn starch and water! It is a Newtonian fluid, meaning it’s consistency changes if it is stricken. Poke it slowly and it remains a liquid, but hit it quickly and it becomes hard, then melts back into it’s original state. Put two parts cornstarch to one part water in a bowl. Food coloring is optional, and Kool-aid works just as well. Store in a Ziploc bag or airtight container. It is a good idea to wear old clothing, as it tends to get messy, but will come out with water.

Slime – for this you will need a lot of glue. Elmer’s glue seems to work the best from my personal experiences, unlike Roseart’s glue. To make the slime you will need 1 part glue, 1 part water, and 1 part borax solution. Borax is found in the detergent section of stores, and is fairly cheap. Put it in water until no more borax dissolves, and then add it to the half water, half glue mixture. Add more borax if you wish for it to be less gooey. It is not recommended to keep it for more than a day, as it becomes less desirable to play with as particles of dust collect on it as you play with it. As a precaution, make sure it is not ingested, as Borax can be toxic when swallowed.
Now, what are you waiting for? Go have fun making and playing with homemade Oobleck and slime!
